About
As someone who has worked in different care settings, my experience has helped me understand the importance of taking care of our mental health and its impact on overall health and wellbeing if ignored.
I am a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with 10 years of nursing experience, including acute care, emergency room, and critical care. My broad experience across healthcare settings allows me to personalize treatment and medication management for adults, adolescents, and children with anxiety, depression, psychotic disorders, and trauma-related conditions.
I earned my Master’s in Nursing from Walden University, where I concentrated on psychiatric care. My approach to care begins with a thorough evaluation of symptoms and medication needs, followed by continuous collaboration to ensure progress and comfort while prioritizing safety and patient-centered outcomes.
My goal is to provide a compassionate, judgment-free environment where clients feel supported throughout their healing journey. Together, we will develop effective, individualized treatment strategies to reduce symptoms, restore balance, and help you achieve peace of mind and emotional well-being.

Teresa George is a Licensed Professional Counselor in both West Virginia and Virginia. She has 25+ years of experience, providing individual therapy, group therapy, family therapy, and psychological screening to adults, seniors, adolescents, and children. She’s worked with survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and other types of trauma as well as those with adjustment issues, parent-child relational issues, and mood disorders. She continues her education by attending cultural diversity, LGBTQ+, mindfulness techniques, autism, motivational interviewing, and trauma-focused CBT courses.
Teresa approaches clients without judgment, working at their pace and giving them space to explore their lives and improve areas of their lives that are unsatisfactory. Depending on the client, she will use CBT, CCPT, motivational interviewing, parenting skills, brief strategic family therapy, and trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy techniques.
Teresa knows that seeking help can be challenging, even frightening. She recognizes that seeing a therapist is a vulnerable process. She will provide a safe place, free from judgment. Domestic violence therapy is a specialized form of counseling that helps victims and their families heal from abusive relationships. It is a crucial component of the broader efforts to address and combat domestic violence, a pattern of abusive behaviors within intimate relationships that can encompass physical, emotional, psychological, sexual, or economic abuse.
In domestic violence therapy, therapists create a safe and supportive environment. Domestic violence therapy is often part of a broader support network that includes legal assistance, shelters, and community resources. Its aim is to break the cycle of abuse, promote safety, and foster healthier relationships.
Domestic violence therapy at Thriveworks is conducted both in person and via Online therapy. We encourage you to choose the option that works best for you.
Domestic violence therapy can last for a few weeks, months, or longer, depending on the individual’s exact needs and preferences.
Thriveworks Woodbridge offers therapy and support for people facing domestic violence. Our professionals understand the challenges victims face and what it takes to find safety.
If you’re ready to break free from the patterns of abuse, call or go online to schedule with one of our therapists today.
The details may vary, but the same pattern of domestic violence is almost always present, which includes:
The Honeymoon Phase: Regardless of how extreme the violence is, almost every relationship has times of relative happiness and peace. These good times make it difficult for victims to understand what is happening to them.
The Tension Building Phase: Inevitably, the violent partner begins demanding more and more from the victim, and tensions rise. Victims often attempt to shield their partners from anything that may trigger violence. They may walk on eggshells, trying to appease their partner. Violent partners often lead their victims to believe that the violence is their fault—triggered by some flaw in them. However, violence is always a choice and never a victim’s fault.
The Abusive Phase: When a violent partner chooses to abuse, the harm may be emotional, physical, or sexual. In many circumstances, it incorporates all three.
One woman illustrated life in the pattern of domestic violence, “He would be alternately kind and then fly off the handle for no reason. I always lived in fear of his temper. It was very stressful.”
The warning signs do not guarantee that a relationship is abusive, but the listed behaviors are serious. If you or a loved one is experiencing these behaviors from an intimate partner, it may be time to seek out professional help.
Counseling through Thriveworks Woodbridge has helped many people face the reality that their relationship is not healthy and take action to secure their safety. Our counselors have appointments available for domestic violence victims.
