What is your go-to approach for depression counseling?

My go-to approach for treating depression is to use CBT techniques as well as mindfulness techniques. I enjoy using CBT, as it can help provide insight into depressive thoughts or behaviors, and mindfulness helps separate the client from their struggles.

What tools do you teach in depression counseling?

I teach a variety of techniques and tools in depression therapy, including grounding techniques. Grounding techniques are skills to utilize when in high emotional states to help ground the person in the present rather than being stuck in the future or the past.

How do you know when a client is making meaningful progress in depression counseling?

I know a client is making meaningful progress in their treatment of depression when they are able to recognize their depressive thoughts as their depression rather than just their thoughts.

What can clients do in their personal time to supplement depression counseling?

Clients can supplement their time in counseling through meaningful connections with others and body movements (i.e. walking, exercising, moving, etc.).

What should someone do to prepare for starting depression counseling?

To prepare for your first session to treat depression, you can show up with a desire and willingness to challenge mindsets and change.
