My go-to approach for treating anxiety is to use CBT techniques as well as mindfulness techniques. I enjoy using CBT, as it can help provide an insight into anxious thoughts or anxious behaviors, and mindfulness helps separate the client from their struggles.
I teach a variety of techniques and tools in anxiety therapy, including grounding techniques. Grounding techniques are skills to utilize in times of high anxiety to help ground the person to the present rather than being in the future where anxiety lives.
I know a client is making meaningful progress in anxiety therapy when they are able to recognize their anxious thoughts as anxiety rather than just their thoughts.
Clients can supplement their time in anxiety therapy with meaningful connections with others and body movements (i.e. walking, exercising, moving, etc.).
To prepare for your first anxiety therapy session, you can sign up with a desire to change.
Anxiety therapy helps people better understand and manage their anxiety. Anxiety therapists at Thriveworks in Quincy, MA can develop a treatment plan that will help you better manage your day-to-day anxiety or your anxiety disorder.
Anxiety therapy involves talking to a therapist about symptoms, potential causes, and more. Thriveworks Quincy therapists will then work with you to determine where your anxiety might stem from and teach you effective coping mechanisms.
One of the best ways to deal with anxiety is to learn about your own anxiety: your symptoms, what triggers it, and what coping mechanisms have been effective in the past. When you learn what your anxiety is tied to, it can help you be mindful of what’s really happening as well as prevent and mitigate symptoms by processing and working through the issue in therapy. Other strategies that have been shown to help manage anxiety are meditation, challenging anxious thoughts, exercising, and journaling.
Common symptoms of anxiety include:
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) can be incredibly effective in treating anxiety and anxiety disorders. Other effective techniques include exposure therapy, Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and EMDR therapy.
Anxiety therapy is conducted both in person and online, depending on the individual’s preferences and their therapist’s availability. We suggest choosing the option that best suits your needs.
On average, people can tend to attend 15 to 20 session of anxiety therapy (five or more months). However, this number is heavily dependent on the type of anxiety that’s being treated and its severity, with many choosing to attend anxiety therapy for a longer period of time to ensure its effectiveness long-term.
Yes, it is worth going to therapy for anxiety. If you are struggling with regular anxious thoughts and feelings that are affecting your day-to-day life or you suspect that you have an anxiety disorder, you should seek expert anxiety help.
All people worry to some degree: a feeling that arises and then resolves. However, anxiety is different in its severity and also its persistence. Anxiety is like a constant companion. It can last for several months or for many years. Anxiety is a severe and common mental health disorder, but it is also treatable.
Thriveworks Counseling in Quincy, MA anxiety therapy understands the many treatment options that are available to those who suffer from anxiety. We also know that anxiety can come in many different forms. Often, a good diagnosis is the basis of good treatment, and our counselors and therapists are ready to help. If you are struggling with anxiety, reach out to Thriveworks Quincy, MA anxiety therapy today.
Anxiety symptoms can vary from one person to the next; however, there are often shared signs as well as symptoms. “The major signs of anxiety are excessive worry that is difficult to control occurring more days than not, for at least 6 months,” says Sherry Kravitsky, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor at our Quincy office. “Some of the symptoms are restlessness, tiredness, muscle tension, shakiness. Also shortness of breath, dry mouth, nausea. Feeling constantly on edge, hard time concentrating, sleep issues, irritability.”
Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) is that ongoing anxiety that an individual might feel in a range of scenarios. Here are the characteristics of GAD (DSM-5 300.02 [F41.1]):
GAD affects people of all ages. Teens may experience anxiety over peer relationships, school, and family stress. Adults may feel anxiety about their finances, careers, and family’s well-being. While the issues will vary, the experience of anxiety at any age is often the same.
Mental health professionals can often help their clients find the right long-term care for their anxiety. “Therapy can reduce the overall frequency, intensity, and duration of the anxiety; resolve the core conflict of the anxiety; enhance the ability to effectively cope with life’s anxieties; and help one learn and implement new coping skills that result in the reduction of anxiety,” Kravitsky explains.
In the short-term, here are a few tricks for managing anxiety.
Each year, almost 40 million adults in the United States struggle with some form of an anxiety disorder. If you have anxiety, you are not alone. Treatment options are available. The counselors and therapists at Thriveworks in Quincy have worked with many people who have anxiety, helping them find the diagnosis and relief they need.
