About
As one who has experienced mental health and substance abuse issues, I have an authentic understanding of the impact that improving mental health can provide the tools necessary for recovery.
I'm Tamara Miller, a licensed clinical social worker in Texas and Utah with a master's degree in social work focused on addiction and recovery. I work with individuals experiencing co-occurring substance use and mental health challenges, helping them navigate recovery, maintain sobriety, and build healthier, more stable lives. My approach is compassionate, client-centered, and grounded in supporting lasting change.
I use evidence-based approaches including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), along with strategies that promote positive mindset shifts, helping clients build healthier thought patterns, develop coping skills, and support meaningful growth and healing.
You don't have to navigate this alone. I'm here to support you with care, understanding, and respect every step of the way. If you're ready to move toward a healthier, more balanced life, I invite you to reach out and schedule an appointment when you feel ready.

I believe real change begins when you feel truly seen and supported, so I meet you with empathy, honesty, and practical tools to help you move forward.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with over 8 years of experience in the mental health field, including 4 years as an LPC Associate and 4 years as a fully licensed clinician. My background includes work in schools, inpatient and outpatient settings, and telehealth, which has given me the opportunity to support individuals and families through a wide range of challenges. I believe real change begins when you feel truly seen and supported, so I meet you with empathy, honesty, and practical tools to help you move forward.
I work with adolescents and adults navigating anxiety, depression, emotional overwhelm, relationship difficulties, and life transitions. Many clients come to counseling feeling overstimulated, or unsure how to cope—looking for practical tools, clarity, and a sense of control. Others may be working through past trauma or patterns impacting their daily lives.
Whether you're seeking relief from immediate stressors or looking for deeper understanding and long-term growth, I strive to create a supportive space where you feel heard, understood, and empowered to move forward.

After over 2 decades of providing counseling support, I maintain the same goal I started my career with – making sure everyone has a chance to be heard, validated, and engage in a meaningful clinical conversation in order to find solutions to their distress.

Eric completed a Master's degree from Dallas Theological Seminary. My go-to approach for helping kids in child therapy is cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). I find the best benefit in CBT because kids are able to use the skills and tools across a variety of situations.
I teach the following tools in child therapy:
I know a client is making meaningful progress in child therapy when they move to bi-weekly or monthly appointments and realize they do not need me as much.
The client can supplement their time in child therapy with practice, practice, practice. Practice each skill they learn from week to week so that the skill becomes muscle memory.
To prepare for their first child therapy session, a child (and parent) can get ready to practice skills and techniques at home and, if the child is comfortable, I prefer to have the parent present for every session so that the parent will learn the skill and can be there to practice with the child.
Child therapy, also known as counseling for kids, helps young individuals better understand and manage the challenges that affect their mental health. Common challenges amongst kids include behavioral issues, trauma, bullying, depression, and anxiety. All ages of children can attend and benefit from child therapy at Thriveworks Lubbock.
Child therapy works by using multiple techniques tailored to fit the child’s needs based on their age group, their challenges, and the severity of their challenges. It might involve play therapy for younger kids or cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, art therapy, and others for varying ages. In any case, Thriveworks child therapists in Lubbock, TX have the expertise and experience to help kids at their level.
Child therapy is a type of therapy meant for clients within a specific age group, while play therapy is an approach to therapy that helps children with self-expression and stress relief, among others. Play therapy is a technique that is often used in child therapy to help children express what’s running through their minds when they do not have the words to express their thoughts and emotions. It can get children to express what’s wrong, what might be causing unwanted behaviors, or what they might need in a way that is accessible to them so that therapists can then work to treat the issue.
It’s not always obvious when a child should see a therapist for their behavior, though in the midst of challenges like divorce, loss, bullying, and other mental health conditions, it’s often a good idea to seek it out. Common behaviors that can indicate a need for child therapy include separation anxiety, bedwetting (at inappropriate ages), and agitation/excessive irritability — especially if it reaches a point of physical violence.
Cognitive behavioral therapy at Thriveworks in Lubbock, TX is one of the best types of therapy for children. However, it can be administered in child therapy sessions in a variety of ways that are more accessible to young minds, such as play therapy.
Child therapy at Thriveworks is conducted both in person and online by video. We encourage you to choose the option that works best for you.
The length of child therapy depends on your child’s needs as well as the goals that you and their therapist might have for them. Generally, child therapy sessions will last for several months.
