About
I am excited to hear your story and help you find the answers you need.
Melissa Fogarty is a Licensed Professional Counselor with 15 years of experience. She started her career with children and adolescents at risk for mental health issues such as personality disorders, mood disorders, trauma and PTSD, abuse, depression, and anxiety. She soon discovered it is important to consider outside influences on behavior and began working with families as a system. This allows clients to share their stories and allows Melissa to put all of the pieces together for a better understanding. A passion for helping others live their best lives drives Melissa to be so dedicated.
Melissa earned her Master’s in Counseling from Amberton University. She uses a systems approach, including family systems, cognitive reprocessing therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and person-centered therapy to help clients. The goal is to find the missing pieces to your puzzle. Families may be invited to help create a supportive environment.
Melissa takes an analytical approach. By seeing things through her clients' eyes, Melissa has an uncanny ability to completely empathize with her clients, meet them where they are without judgment, and create a safe space to work together on finding answers. Reach out today!

Do you ever have those days where you wake up feeling sad, unmotivated, and tired? Of course you do—we all have those days every now and then. Depression, though, is much more severe. Rather than having an off day here and there, depression is characterized by a deep despair, loss of interest, and other harmful symptoms that last at least two weeks (and often, longer).
Other harmful symptoms include sleep trouble, harmful changes in appetite and/or weight, lack of motivation, exhaustion, fatigue, withdrawal from other people, inability to focus, and more. In summary, depression makes life unpleasant and disturbs important areas like an individual’s relationships and job.
Depression can be absolutely brutal. Perhaps the most difficult part is that many people don’t realize or fail to admit that they might be depressed. Many of us are hardwired to sweep our problems under the rug and hope that they’ll resolve themselves. When it comes to depression, many of us assume they’re fleeting feelings that will eventually pass. This just isn’t the case, though.
To properly manage and heal from your depression, it’s important that you talk to a mental health professional. In fact, there are mental health professionals who specialize in treating depression. If you’d like to consult a depression therapist or psychologist, please reach out to Thriveworks Counseling in El Paso, TX. Our team can assess your symptoms and help you manage your depression and other mental health challenges.
We listed many of the signs and symptoms of depression above. However, as we said earlier, it’s often difficult to recognize these in yourself. Consider the following questions to better understand whether you might be displaying depression symptoms:
If you answered yes to any of these questions, we suggest that you talk to a mental health professional. We understand that doing so can feel frightening. However, it’s a step in the right direction and toward getting the answers and the help that you need.
Our depression therapists and psychologists at Thriveworks in El Paso, TX are here to help you. They’ll offer their unbridled support during this most difficult time.
What some people don’t realize is that there are different types of depression. Here are a few of the most common:
The symptoms we’ve already listed can occur with the above types of depression. However, they each have other specifics; for example, postpartum depression occurs in moms after the birth of their baby. And seasonal affective disorder often occurs in the colder, darker seasons.
If you feel depressed or you think that you’re at risk of developing any given form of depression, please reach out to Thriveworks Counseling in El Paso, TX. We’re always here to help.
