Online play therapy allows young children to use virtual toys, art, and creative materials and exercises to express emotions and experiences, with trained Thriveworks Charlotte therapists guiding the process. This format is especially helpful for children who may have difficulties with in-person session, ultimately supporting their well-being and development.
Online play therapy for children functions by utilizing digital platforms, such as video calls or virtual environments, to facilitate therapeutic sessions. During these sessions, trained Thriveworks Charlotte therapists help children engage in play-based activities, using toys, art, and creative materials to express their thoughts, emotions, and experiences, much like they would in traditional in-person play therapy. A trained play therapist guides and observes the child’s play, creating a supportive and empathetic space for exploration and understanding of their emotions and challenges.
Online play therapy at Thriveworks is conducted online via Online therapy, though Thriveworks also offers in-person play therapy. We encourage you to choose the option that works best for you.
Online play therapy’s length can be variable, contingent upon the child’s distinct requirements, the progress achieved during treatment, and the therapist’s treatment plan. In general, online play therapy involves a series of sessions spanning from several weeks to several months. The specific number of sessions and the overall therapy duration are tailored to the child’s response to treatment and the therapeutic objectives established.
Certainly, online play therapy can still be beneficial for your child. While traditional face-to-face play therapy might offer certain advantages, such as physical presence and a more tangible connection with the therapist, online play therapy can provide numerous benefits as well:
Play therapy provides a developmentally appropriate and effective approach for children to address a wide range of emotional, behavioral, and social difficulties in a supportive and empowering manner.
Your child’s therapist will discuss with you how to ensure that your child understands the difference, since this is such a crucial part of why play therapy works. If you have any more questions, feel free to contact us at Thriveworks today!
