About
As a person-centered clinician, I understand that listening is unique, not diagnostic; mental healthcare belongs to the person as an individual.
Welcome! My name is Ben. I am a licensed professional counselor in the state of PA. I work with individuals facing a range of challenges, including anxiety, depression, and relationship issues. My goal is to provide a safe and supportive space where clients can explore their thoughts and feelings, set realistic goals, and develop effective coping strategies to improve their overall well-being and achieve lasting positive change.
My approach to therapy is rooted in a person-centered experience for the client. No two clients are the same, so I pull from a range of therapeutic modalities—including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy skills, EMDR, and Existentialism—to meet each client's unique needs. I also approach my work in a trauma-informed way and never assume that I understand your experience.
If you feel like I may be the right fit for you, I encourage you to reach out and schedule an appointment to explore how I can support your journey toward well-being.

As someone who has experienced life’s complexities firsthand, I understand how heavy mental health struggles, trauma, and hardships can feel, and I’m here to walk alongside you with compassion, understanding, and practical support as you work toward healing and stability.
My name is Irlande Stavien, and I have been working in mental health for the past 13 years. My path into this field began with a desire to better understand people—their struggles, their resilience, and the many ways life can shape emotional well-being. I hold a bachelor's degree in Psychology and Psychiatric Rehabilitation, as well as a master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.
For 8 years, I worked in one of my state's largest hospitals, and over the last 5 years, I've continued to grow while helping others work toward becoming the person they envision themselves to be. Working with individuals from many different backgrounds has strengthened my understanding of the importance of compassion and genuine human connection.
I focus on creating a nonjudgmental space where clients feel safe, heard, and understood. My goal is to help clients feel empowered, supported, and able to move toward healing and personal growth at their own pace. My approach is grounded in compassion, authenticity, and meeting people where they are while helping them build the life they want.

My go-to approach for helping people in individual therapy is a person-centered approach. Everyone is so unique; I want to find out about you first. There are techniques, homework, and other ways to implement change, but if it doesn't fit in with what works for you, it won't be effective.
I believe there are several steps that will help in the process of therapy. The first is to increase awareness of the issues going on in people's lives. To achieve this, one needs to look at the patterns that a person engages in. This can be done in a variety of ways, such as journaling, processing one incident deeply, tracking tools, etc. When there is awareness, then you need to move on to what is the impact of the issue. Is it really something that you want to change? The client has to be driving the bus on this one. I may personally think that something should change in someone's life, but if they don't, there cannot be any change. Finally, the client needs to learn new ways to manage and implement those changes. This is often the hardest step because there can be pushback from others in your life. This is part of the process to learn how to deal with that pushback.
I know a client is making meaningful progress in individual therapy when they tell me! It might be simple, but when they share any decrease in symptoms, progress in implementing the coping skills, or feeling more joy in their lives or increased hope in their future, I know there's progress.
Clients can supplement their time in individual therapy by writing down ideas to talk about in therapy in order to try to remember what happened in the week. Everyone does this; there is so much going on in our lives that it's hard to remember what you did yesterday, let alone in a whole week. It helps to jot down some notes about what happened during the week.
To prepare for your first individual therapy session, you can jot down questions or concerns you have about starting therapy. It is an overwhelming process to gather the energy to start therapy. I understand how it feels to have to talk to a stranger about what you are going through. It can be scary. I find that writing these thoughts and feelings down can help you gear up for the first session.
Individual therapy, also known as Individual therapy, allows people to engage in private sessions with a skilled therapist, counselor, or psychologist. The core objective of individual therapy is to establish a secure and confidential setting where you can openly discuss whatever emotional, psychological, or behavioral challenges you face. Through these one-on-one sessions, the client and therapist work together to delve into, comprehend, and ultimately find solutions for the issues at hand in their life.
Individual therapy unfolds in a structured process, commencing with an initial assessment in which the therapist gathers essential information about your history, concerns, and objectives. Together, you and your therapist collaboratively establish specific, attainable goals for your sessions, which can encompass symptom alleviation, personal development, or finding solutions to particular challenges.
Yes, individual therapy, also known as Individual therapy, at Thriveworks can help you to improve your mental health and overall quality of life.
