Leslie Trerotola is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW-C) with 8 years of experience in the mental health field. Leslie works with adults and seniors. She has experience working with attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), anxiety, bipolar disorder, depression, life transitions, and stress management.
Leslie completed her Master of Social Work (MSW) at the University of Maryland. While in school, she interned at a community clinic and senior living community (nursing facility and short-term rehab). Once Leslie became licensed, she worked in an inpatient behavioral health hospital setting. Afterwards, she transitioned to an outpatient mental health practice. Leslie uses cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and mindfulness with her clients. She also encourages her clients to use a holistic approach to health through exercise, nutrition, getting enough sleep, having supportive relationships, and doing activities that bring them joy.
You can expect Leslie to get to know you and address any concerns you have. She will be honest, but optimistic and realistic. Leslie knows your time is valuable and your trust is just as valuable, so she will work to earn that. She will also be respectful of your opinions. If that sounds like something you are interested in, schedule an appointment with Leslie today.

My approach to helping people in online therapy does not differ from in person, as I continue to view the clients as in control of their treatment process. At the beginning of therapy, we focus on building rapport and identifying treatment goals. Although there is a distance factor in meeting on screen, I do my best to help encourage the client to feel as comfortable as possible in the process.
In online therapy, I will typically utilize the same treatment approaches as in in-person counseling. Being able to work on cognitive behavioral strategies, mindfulness approaches, and anxiety management techniques can be effectively used during online sessions as well as in person.
I know a client is making meaningful progress in online therapy when the clients begin to talk about the progress they are seeing in themselves. Being able to challenge previous negative thinking patterns or using positive coping strategies instead of previous behaviors are also noted as signs of progress. The client is also encouraged to reevaluate goals on a regular basis and, in doing so, can access their own level of progress throughout treatment.
Clients can supplement their time in online therapy by continuing to engage in activities that they enjoy, as well as possibly journaling their feelings or any specific areas of concern they experienced in between sessions. Being involved in activities that can also help manage symptoms through the use of coping strategies and finding time for mindfulness during the week is also helpful in managing symptoms as well.
To prepare for your first online therapy session, I suggest clients write down a few notes they want to share with the clinician and remember that the first session is typically getting some background information and the general reason for referral. The clinician is looking forward to meeting with you as well, and knows there may be some anxiety or hesitancy with doing therapy online and will take things at a pace that is best for you.
With Thriveworks, Online therapy is an effective alternative to in-person therapy services in which a client can speak to a Thriveworks therapist remotely via online video conferencing. Online sessions are just as effective as in-person treatment, but they can also provide added benefits like reduced travel time, saving money on transportation or childcare, and increased access to care.
Online therapy works much like traditional in-person therapy but takes place through secure video conferencing. Clients can attend Online therapy from any safe place they choose that has access to the internet, whether that be their home or another easily accessible place. Like in-person treatment, a therapist will work with their client to address their concerns, create goals, and establish an effective treatment plan.
There is no best option for online therapy—instead, it’s best to focus on finding a provider that meets your specific needs and with whom you can form a professional connection with.
Yes, online therapy is just as effetive for many clients as in-person sessions.
Online therapy can last for a few months to years depending on the goals and symptoms of the client. The treatment process will be unique to each client and lend itself to their specific concerns, which means that the time it takes to treat them will always be different. Timing is also up to the client themselves; they are free to stop therapy whenever they please, especially if they feel they have reached their goals and addressed their concerns.
At Thriveworks, we accept most major insurance plans, allowing many clients to pay as little as $0–$50 per session with their co-pay. We also offer self-pay options for those out-of-network or without insurance. Self-pay rates for talk therapy range from $160 to $240 for intake sessions and $135 to $195 for follow-ups, depending on your state. For psychiatry services, self-pay intake sessions are $255–$375, with follow-ups ranging from $175–$300, also varying by state. More information on current self-pay costs is available on our pricing page.
Counseling can help us manage the stress that weighs us down after a difficult week or month at work. Counseling can help us navigate difficult conversations with our partners and resolve the problems in our relationships. Counseling can help us better understand why we feel the way that we do and how we can best channel or communicate those emotions. Counseling can help us with virtually any mental health problem or challenge we are met with.
Counseling, paired with doing what you can to care for your mind and body—be it eating right, exercising, or splurging on a large pizza, depending on the day—can help you find utmost happiness and success in your life.
Sometimes self-care is exercising and eating right. Sometimes, it’s spending time with loved ones or taking a nap. And sometimes it’s watching an entire season of TV in one weekend while you lounge around in your pajamas. Whatever soothes your soul. –Nanea Hoffman
If you’re interested in becoming the very best version of yourself, consider working with a mental health professional. Counselors, therapists, and life coaches alike can help you work through your personal challenges and achieve your greatest goals.
Are you interested in pursuing mental health help? If so, consider working with one of our online counselors at Thriveworks in Nottingham, MD. These professionals will help, guide, and support you over the phone or video chat.
Online counseling is a simple (yet effective) alternative to the traditional in-person counseling approach. The former option means visiting your counselor at their office for your session(s). The latter option is all about receiving the help you’re looking for in an online environment, removing traveling to the office from the equation.
Some people are hesitant to begin online counseling because they worry that it won’t prove as effective as in-person counseling. We want to assure you that if the virtual counseling environment appeals to you, you shouldn’t let this fear stop you. Multiple studies have shown that online counseling is just as effective as in-person counseling, which means it has just as much potential to help you!
Now, if you do try online counseling and decide that it isn’t for you, that’s completely okay. You can always go back to the traditional in-person counseling approach. Thriveworks Counseling is happy to accommodate your needs and preferences.
Thriveworks Counseling offers two primary online counseling options: telephone counseling and video counseling. Both of these options permit our clients to work closely with their provider from a distance! Here are a few things to consider, in choosing which option you would like to pursue:
Let’s talk a little bit about each point above. First, phone counseling might prove to be the simpler, more flexible option, especially if you predict having to attend your appointment on the go or if you’d prefer not to attend your session via a virtual video chat room. Second, video counseling offers that face-to-face element, so if that is a priority, video counseling might be the right option for you. Third, phone counseling does not offer that face-to-face interaction; if this is preferable, phone counseling might be the better of the two options! Finally, video counseling might require greater preparation, as you’ll have to get your laptop, or another device set up ahead of time.
