About
As a member of the lgbtqia+ community, with long term health conditions, I understand how important it is to have someone to talk to and work through life's challenges.
I am a licensed professional counselor with 9 years of experience supporting clients through anxiety, depression, addiction, lgbtqia+ concerns, life transitions, and self-esteem challenges. I take an open-minded and eclectic approach to treatment, drawing from cbt, motivational interviewing, and person-centered strategies to help clients feel safe, understood, and empowered to explore their experiences without judgment.
I hold a master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling from the University of South Carolina. My background includes adlerian theory and a range of evidence-based interventions that help clients examine where unhelpful thoughts originate and how to replace them with healthier beliefs and choices.
I am here to support you with compassion and collaboration. Wherever you are starting from, whatever you have experienced, and whatever goals you’re working toward, we can walk through it together. I would be honored to be part of your growth and help you move toward a more grounded, hopeful version of yourself.

As one who was diagnosed with ADHD, I have empathetic understanding and patience with the neurodivergent population that I draw from to find the best creative solutions for my clients.
I am Jessica Hutchison, a licensed professional counselor associate (LPC-A) with almost two years of professional experience. I have worked mainly with children ages 4 to 18, providing family therapy and parenting sessions, though I am trained to work with all ages. My clients have faced ADHD, autism, depression, anxiety, PTSD, grief, substance abuse, ODD, suicidal ideation, self-harm, stress-related disorders, and mood disorders — wanting to manage symptoms, learn to love themselves, become more successful, or simply "not be sad anymore." I want to help all of my clients become the best and happiest versions of themselves.
The main techniques I have used with my clients are play therapy, CBT, DBT, solution-focused therapy, client-centered therapy, mindfulness training, psychoeducation, reflective listening, and goal setting. I believe in clear, honest, open communication between therapist and client to help build a healthy and trusting rapport.
Sometimes the world can seem like too much. If you have ever felt struggling, unhappy, or not where you want to be, come talk to someone who has struggled and can teach you how to manage. I will help you discover underlying issues and learn to love yourself again. Please come see me, Jessica Hutchison, your fellow neurodivergent who understands the struggle.

I believe in creating a compassionate, judgment-free space where I partner with clients to support healing, resilience, and meaningful progress toward emotional wellness.
My name is Tamekia Ruff, and I am a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) dedicated to evidence-based mental health care. I have experience working with adolescents and adults facing challenges such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, mood disorders, trauma, stress-related concerns, and life transitions. I work with individuals seeking clarity, emotional balance, improved coping skills, and support navigating personal, academic, or professional challenges. My goal is to create a safe, collaborative environment where clients feel heard, respected, and empowered in their mental wellness journey.
My approach to care is collaborative, supportive, and individualized to each client's unique needs and goals. I combine evidence-based treatment, thoughtful medication management, and therapeutic support to help clients understand their mental health. I strive to create a warm, nonjudgmental space where clients feel comfortable and involved in their care.
I understand that reaching out for support can feel overwhelming, but you do not have to navigate life's challenges alone. Healing and growth are possible, and taking the first step toward care is a meaningful act of strength and self-investment. I welcome the opportunity to work alongside you toward a healthier, more balanced, and fulfilling life.

Dealing with grief and loss is a personal and unique journey, so it's important to explain that to the client as well as ensure them that there is no wrong or right way to grieve or a time limit.
One effective tool in working with grief and loss is the stages of grief, helping the clients to identify where they are, and helping them realize that grief is oftentimes not linear.
Progress in this area can be measured by the client's ability to move through and experience the stages of grief. Some say acceptance is a good measure, or finding a purpose through their loss.
Clients can be encouraged to join grief groups, journal, spend time with family and friends, and reminisce about their loved one.
Something a client may do before therapy is ask themselves what they hope to expect or need from grief counseling.
Grief and loss counseling helps people grieve difficult losses including the death of a loved one, the loss of a job, or the end of a relationship. It helps people navigate their grief process and eventually accept, understand, and move forward from their loss. Thriveworks grief therapists in Mt Pleasant, SC have specific experience, training, and skills that enable them to best support grieving individuals.
Grief and loss counseling isn’t one-size-fits-all, but it involves sharing about your loss and then working with your counselor to acknowledge and accept your new reality in its wake. Your provider at Thriveworks in Mt Pleasant, SC will design your treatment plan around your unique needs and goals for therapy, applying the counseling techniques that best support them.
If you have recently experienced an event like the death of a loved one, a breakup or divorce, the loss of a job, or another major life change, then you may want to seek grief and loss counseling. Grief can be caused by many experiences and events, so if you feel that you are having trouble moving on from a certain event or find that it is still impacting your life and functioning, grief and loss counseling can help you process it more effectively so that you can move on and once again find fulfillment and satisfaction in your life.
There are many counseling theories for treating grief, one of the most frequently used being the dual process model of grief which helps people acknowledge who or what they’ve lost through rumination while also adjusting to the new roles and identities that this loss has now placed on them. There are also many commonly used therapy approaches used in grief and loss counseling, including Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and traumatic grief therapy.
Grief & loss counseling at Thriveworks is conducted both in person and online by video. We encourage you to choose the option that works best for you.
For many, grief and loss counseling lasts for about 6 months. For others, it may last shorter or longer, depending on the severity of their loss and their grief.
