Peggy Hurst is a Licensed Professional Counselor with more than 20 years of experience as a School Counselor and several years in private practice. She enjoys working with teenagers as well as adult individuals and couples to improve self-growth, relationships, and positive movement toward life goals. Areas of specialization include treatment of anxiety, depression, trauma, grief and loss, parenting issues, special needs children, and career identity. Peggy holds a Master of Education in School Counseling from the University of Georgia and a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Richmont Graduate University.
As a Christian counselor, spiritual integration is infused in Peggy’s therapy style, along with mindfulness, gratitude, and resources for healthy living. Cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, EMDR, emotional freedom techniques, motivational interviewing, and acceptance & commitment therapy are a few of her favorite interventions.
Peggy’s passion has always been to help others. She believes that people are body, soul (mind/emotions), and spirit, each aspect part of the larger whole. Helping clients set treatment goals and then make progress towards those goals is Peggy’s forte. Her primary focus is to help people overcome internal barriers to growth and empower them to pursue goals.

Career counseling, sometimes called career coaching, helps individuals make informed career decisions. This type of counseling is led by one of our Marietta therapists who is trained to provide career development support.
Career counseling works to help you navigate your professional career and offer valuable information, such as required skill sets and/or education, regarding a particular position you may be considering. The following are common focuses of conversation that will help your career counselor best help you:
Career counseling at Thriveworks is conducted both in person and via Online therapy. We encourage you to choose the option that works best for you.
Career counseling can last for weeks, months, or even years. It all depends on the goals that you’re looking to accomplish and whether you continue to want/need a counselor to help you reach your goals. Either way, our career counselors are here and ready to help you get on the right track.
Career counseling isn’t just for those fresh out of school. If you’ve recently been laid off, would like to move up in your career, need to increase your income, or just want to explore your options, we can help. At Thriveworks Marietta, we have career counselors that can help you honestly assess your skills, narrow the field, discuss your goals and aspirations, and find the career where you will thrive.
Thriveworks Marietta career counseling clients run the gamut from newly-graduated students who have no clue what to do with their shiny new diploma, to seasoned members of the workforce who have decided to make a major career change. If you’re one of the former, career counseling is a great move.
Instead of wandering along through the first few years of professional work, a career counselor can help you find direction. And if you’re interested in making a major career change, a career counselor can walk through your reasoning to make sure it’s sound. From there, we can help you figure out which new career path to take and make sure you’ve got a plan to get the education or certifications you may need to make that change.
It’s not uncommon to seek career counseling only to find a complete career change isn’t necessary—what you’re really seeking is more challenge. That challenge may mean working toward a higher position. We can work with you to gain the skills and develop a strategy to move into that more advanced position.
Making a career change or getting a new job doesn’t have to be overwhelming. It will take some time, research, and work, but that process can be fulfilling, particularly if you have professional help to guide you. Let Thriveworks Marietta career counselors help make the right decision for you.
Of course, figuring out the right career is one thing, but getting a new job is another. Whether you decide to change careers or merely seek a different position, you’ll have to go through at least one interview. Many people become stressed about the interview process, which often feels scary and mysterious—until you learn about it. Your career counselor can help you develop solid interview skills, help you practice answers to questions, and even assist you in presenting more effectively.
Let Thriveworks Marietta career counselors help get your career, and your life, back on track. We are ready to help when we are needed. Call us today and get started on making your dreams a reality.
We offer daytime, evening, and weekend counseling and therapy sessions to help you find the best time for treatment. Thriveworks Counseling also accepts many forms of health insurance, and new clients often meet with a provider within the week of reaching out.
