About
As a woman with life experience in parenting, marriage, grief, career changes, and multicultural living, I offer a grounded, compassionate space to support you through life’s transitions.
Lynda Cokuslu is a Licensed Professional Counselor with 8 years of experience. She draws from a rich personal journey that has included immigrating, raising a family, and starting a business to support clients through life transitions, cultural shifts, and personal growth. Lynda works with individuals facing anxiety, depression, burnout, and low self-esteem. Her clinical lens is shaped by lived experience and deep empathy, helping clients navigate change with insight and resilience. Lynda works with couples, gamblers, and rural communities, offering tailored support and purpose-driven care in every session.
Lynda earned her Master’s in Counseling from Capella University. She uses cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, and eye movement desensitization reprocessing to help clients manage distress and shift negative thinking.
Lynda understands that life can feel overwhelming, especially during transitions or resurfacing pain. She helps teens and adults reduce stress and improve relationships by offering a compassionate, nonjudgmental space to explore emotions, clarify goals, and begin their healing journey.

Dialectical behavior therapy is useful for helping clients learn emotional regulation skills. I use DBT with people who are seeking tools to help manage intense emotions and urges.
Teaching core mindfulness is extremely helpful for emotional regulation. Clients learn how to notice, name, and clarify their feelings and action urges. Merging logical and emotional brain communication creates a type of wisdom that allows the person to make more practical decisions for their life.
A client is making meaningful progress in DBT when they can consistently practice STOP (Stop, Take a step back, Observe the situation, Proceed mindfully).
Clients can supplement their time in DBT by keeping a journal, practicing meditation/prayer, and keeping themselves physically healthy.
To prepare for their first DBT therapy session, an individual can read some articles on mindfulness.
At Thriveworks, Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) primarily concentrates on assisting individuals in emotion regulation, enhancing interpersonal relationships, and acquiring effective coping strategies for managing stress and emotional difficulties.
Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) targets your personal challenges. You may work with your DBT therapist to maintain diary cards to monitor progress, emphasizing validation and support in the therapeutic relationship. DBT follows a stage-based approach, prioritizing crisis reduction initially and life satisfaction.
DBT was initially developed to address the needs of individuals with borderline personality disorder (BPD). However, its versatile approach has enabled its application to a wide range of mental health conditions, including but not limited to, anxiety, depression, stress, and anger issues.
The 4 pillars of DBT are mindfulness, emotion regulation, interpersonal effectiveness, and distress tolerance.
Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) have distinct purposes and aren’t inherently superior or inferior to one another. DBT is most effective for managing emotional regulation, personality disorders, and interpersonal challenges, while EMDR is specifically tailored for individuals with trauma-related conditions like post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) with therapists at Thriveworks in Marietta, GA is conducted both in person and online by video. We encourage you to choose the option that works best for you.
The duration of a standard DBT program is typically around 24 weeks, which is roughly six months. The actual number of sessions will vary depending on the issues you wish to address.
