About
As a therapist, I will do all that I can to learn who you are and what you're looking for, and then help create truly meaningful change.
I specialize in working with people with ADHD and autism, as well as anyone looking for a space where they can feel genuinely heard. As your therapist, I will not be another voice telling you to push through and make things work when they just won't. I will show up as a kind, calm person who's ready to meet you where you are without judgement. I’ll take the time to get to know you, learn what matters to you, and work with you to create the change you're looking for. If you're feeling overwhelmed and unsure about where to even begin, that's okay. We can figure it out together!
In our sessions, you’ll have space to talk openly about whatever is on your mind. I can offer structure, feedback, and practical guidance when that’s helpful, while also giving you room to slow down, sort through your thoughts and emotions, and make sense of what you’re experiencing.
You deserve a life that is authentic and feels like your own. If you’re thinking about starting therapy, feel free to reach out for a free consultation or initial appointment. We can talk, get to know each other a little, and see if working together feels like a good fit. I'm available to work virtually with anyone in VA.

Abel Juarez is a Resident in Counseling who specializes in depression, anger, anxiety, relationships, and addiction. In life, there will be obstacles and complications that can interrupt and affect how individuals cope with negative as well as positive outcomes. These outcomes can influence a person's thought process and have the ability to make them feel overwhelmed, powerless, and anxious. In counseling, these challenges can be handled in a manner in which individuals, couples, and families can address and begin to understand how such difficulties can result in the present situations.
"I am passionate about aiding those in difficult situations to focus on their strengths and build on them," says Abel. "In this, the counseling process becomes an understanding of several issues instead of focusing on the negative aspects that people find themselves in. Therefore, progress can move forward and the client and I can begin to address the issues at heart.
Furthermore, counseling sessions are a nonjudgmental arena in which the client is not thought of in a negative light. Being that, everyone experiences life and reacts to circumstances both negatively and positively. The extent of this reaction is where counseling starts to help those in need of a better understanding of how they conduct themselves."
You deserve dedicated time with a mental health professional — it can be life-changing.

Marriage counseling, also known as couples therapy and relationship counseling, helps couples work through their specific relationship issues. Thriveworks marriage counseling in Fredericksburg, VA is led by licensed professionals — often licensed marriage and family therapists (LMFTs) — who are experts in their field and best-equipped to help couples. Some examples of common focuses within Marriage counseling include:
Marriage counseling works by helping couples identify and better navigate their unique challenges. Following an initial assessment of the couple in terms of strengths and needs, the therapist would then discuss their therapeutic goals and any possible approaches or ways of working together as therapist and couple.Couples attend sessions together, whether they meet in person or by video. In addition to regular marriage counseling sessions, each partner may also be asked to attend a few individual sessions to supplement their progress. This will allow their counselor to get to know each individual better, assess each of their personal needs, and develop the very best treatment plan moving forward.
Marriage counseling at Thriveworks is conducted both in person and online by video. We encourage you to choose the option that works best for you and your partner.
On average, couples attend marriage counseling for 12 weeks. However, marriage counseling may last longer or shorter, dependent on the couples’ needs, the challenges they’d like to work through, and the pace of their progress. Marriage counselors and therapists at Thriveworks in Fredericksburg, VA work with their clients to create goals, decide on ideal timelines, and establish treatment plans.
Drawing a line between conflicts that can be dealt with in the privacy of your own home and those which require professional support in the form of therapy for couples can prove tricky. Some people might feel that relationship counseling is a desperate solution only for those partners who are facing a pending threat of a divorce or separation. Many fear that a decision to go to couples or marriage therapy is ultimately an acknowledgment of one’s relationship’s failure. These factors undoubtedly feed into the fact that numerous couples choose to persist in their conflicted situation for years before they decide to seek the support of a professional relationship counselor.
It is important to recognize that marriage and couples counseling is nothing that should instigate our fears or shame – many couples choose to seek this kind of support and very often they do it to improve, rather than save, their relationship. If you think you could benefit from couples therapy or marriage counseling, reach out to Thriveworks Fredericksburg.
A decision to go to couples or marriage therapy is ultimately very personal and there are no universally recognized guidelines which will tell you when is the time to do so. Professionals do, however, notice a number of indicators which could suggest the right moment has come. These include:
Many couples find that conflict resolution is easier to achieve under the guidance of a therapist who has no connection and no preconceived ideas about their relationship. As a result, couples or marriage counseling allows them to take a fresh look at their situation and improve their communication.
This is exactly what we strive to provide to our clients at Thriveworks Fredericksburg, VA – objective, nonjudgmental and discrete counseling based on the depth of experience our therapists have gathered whilst working with people at different stages of their relationships, confronted by diverse problems. We understand how to best help our clients – no matter who they are or what problems they approach us with.
