Starting Treatment With a Psychologist

What are psychologists?

Psychologists are mental health professionals that provide psychotherapy services and diagnoses for their clients. They have more research-focused training than most therapists, as they are more medically educated and receive a more general education about therapeutic approaches and theory.

How do psychologists work?

Thriveworks psychologists in Arlington, TX provide standard psychotherapy services, tailoring treatment to each client and their unique concerns. However, they can also provide diagnoses to clients when appropriate, something that therapists and counselors cannot do. Finally, in some states in the U.S., they are allowed to prescribe medication.

Can I see a psychologist in person or online?

How long would I see a psychologist?

Psychological treatment at Thriveworks Arlington is very individualized and specific to each client, which means that the duration of treatment is often varied depending on a client’s condition or disorder, the state of their symptoms, and their specific goals.

Mental healthcare doesn’t exactly come with a manual, and managing your mental health challenges alone can be tricky. This is where working with a licensed psychologist can help.

What Will My Psychological Treatment Involve?

Psychologists are highly trained to diagnose and treat various mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders. Because no two people are exactly alike, a psychologist will create a treatment plan for you that is as unique as you are. Your treatment plan will be centered around your personal experiences, concerns, and goals.

Psychological treatment may involve different types of therapy, medication, and techniques to manage emotions and stress. There are many different kinds of therapy, and your psychologist may recommend more than one. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), humanistic therapy, and psychodynamic therapy are some common forms of therapy your psychologist may suggest.

The therapeutic practices your therapist suggests may include the following:

  • Relaxation techniques
  • Visualization techniques
  • Meditation exercises
  • Setting realistic goals
  • Opening up to loved ones
  • Practicing self-care

Taking care of your mental health doesn’t have to be difficult or complicated. A licensed psychologist at Thriveworks in Arlington, TX can guide you through each step in creating and maintaining good mental health.

I have been working with Dr. Covey for almost 6 months now and she has been excellent. I feel like I am heard and understood even when I have a hard time expressing things myself and putting thoughts into words. Having someone who can actually listen and provide the resources to assist myself with past trauma and current challenges has been a life changer.

This is prior to being seen so this is strictly based on first impressions upon entering the building. The waiting area is nice but undefined as to where one should go nor any indications as to what is needed to be done. No one was there to greet us nor was there any desk or window to suggest someone would. We looked for the therapist's office but no doors had any identification to point us in the right direction. At this point we're at the mercy of the clock alerting the therapist to seek us out in the waiting area in order to be seen. Not the best first impression. I will update this review if and when we are seen.
