About
As someone who has dealt with the mental health system personally, I am someone who understands how it feels to find someone who is willing to listen and be heard.
I am a Registered Clinical Social Worker Intern with 5 years of experience supporting individuals of all ages through emotional and behavioral challenges. In my practice, I work with children, adolescents, men and women experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, OCD, ADHD, autism, behavioral concerns, or grief. My goal is to help clients heal from past pain, develop healthier coping tools, and rediscover their resilience in a compassionate and supportive environment.
I earned my Master’s in Social Work from the University of South Florida. I’ve served as a crisis counselor and grief counselor, helping children and adults process trauma and navigate life’s challenges. I often use cognitive behavioral therapy and dialectical behavior therapy to guide clients toward meaningful growth and lasting change.
Healing isn’t always a straight path, but you don’t have to walk it alone. I’m here to support you every step of the way with empathy and understanding. When you’re ready, I invite you to schedule an appointment with me so we can begin your journey toward emotional wellness together.

My go-to approach for helping people in dialectical behavior therapy is to help them develop skills for managing thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that are interfering with their ability to function well daily. One of the most valuable benefits of DBT is developing the ability to experience discomfort without reacting to it. Most of the time in our daily lives, responding offers a better outcome than reacting. DBT teaches skills that allow a person to respond in the moment rather than react. It is a process that requires imaginal practice and real-time application.
DBT is based on cognitive behavioral therapy with the addition of many specific skills to help people remain in the present moment rather than dwelling on past hurtful experiences or mistakes. It also helps people not live in the future which often brings on additional anxiety and stress over situations that likely will not play out according to their thoughts. The skills I teach in dialectical behavioral therapy include:
I know a client is making meaningful progress in dialectical behavior therapy when they relay experiences where they applied the skills they learned and felt better about how they handled themselves. Success does not mean perfection. Success is making positive changes and seeing progress.
Clients can supplement their time in dialectical behavior therapy by reviewing the skills learned in therapy, then hypothetically rehearsing the skills, and then actually applying the skills in everyday life. I have resources I make available to my clients so they can continue strengthening skills between sessions and enjoying positive changes more readily than by not practicing outside of sessions.
To prepare for the first dialectical behavior therapy session, make a commitment to invest in yourself and your mental health. Be aware that between-session practicing is essential to internalize skills and improve your functioning. Once you have learned the skills, they are yours to use and keep forever. They do not require a prescription or a refill. Skills take longer to effect positive mood changes, but the skills have been proved effective.
At Thriveworks, Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) primarily concentrates on assisting individuals in emotion regulation, enhancing interpersonal relationships, and acquiring effective coping strategies for managing stress and emotional difficulties.
Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) targets your personal challenges. You may work with your DBT therapist to maintain diary cards to monitor progress, emphasizing validation and support in the therapeutic relationship. DBT follows a stage-based approach, prioritizing crisis reduction initially and life satisfaction.
DBT was initially developed to address the needs of individuals with borderline personality disorder (BPD). However, its versatile approach has enabled its application to a wide range of mental health conditions, including but not limited to, anxiety, depression, stress, and anger issues.
The 4 pillars of DBT are mindfulness, emotion regulation, interpersonal effectiveness, and distress tolerance.
Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) have distinct purposes and aren’t inherently superior or inferior to one another. DBT is most effective for managing emotional regulation, personality disorders, and interpersonal challenges, while EMDR is specifically tailored for individuals with trauma-related conditions like post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) with therapists at Thriveworks in Tampa, FL is conducted both in person and online by video. We encourage you to choose the option that works best for you.
The duration of a standard DBT program is typically around 24 weeks, which is roughly six months. The actual number of sessions will vary depending on the issues you wish to address.
