The types of therapy used in couples and marriage counseling include:
At Thriveworks, Couples/marriage therapy is led by licensed professionals — often licensed marriage and family therapists (LMFTs) — who are experts in their field and best-equipped to help couples.
The Gottman Method of couples therapy is a research-supported approach designed to enhance relationships by bolstering the bond between partners, resolving conflicts, and fostering shared meaning in their relationship through comprehensive assessments and tailored interventions that improve communication, trust, and the overall health of the partnership.
If you’re facing persistent relationship problems, communication breakdowns, or unresolved conflicts that are impacting your emotional well-being and happiness, Couples/marriage therapy may be beneficial for you.
While marriage and couple’s counseling is typically recommended for couples who are experiencing persistent or severe relationship issues, any relationship can benefit from attending these sessions.
Marriage and couples counseling at Thriveworks is conducted both in person and online by video. We encourage you to choose the option that works best for you and your partner.
On average, couples attend marriage and couples counseling for 12 weeks. However, couples & marriage counseling may last longer or shorter, dependent on the couples’ needs, the challenges they’d like to work through, and the pace of their progress.
At Thriveworks, we accept most major insurance plans, allowing many clients to pay as little as $0–$50 per session with their co-pay. We also offer self-pay options for those out-of-network or without insurance. Self-pay rates for talk therapy range from $160 to $240 for intake sessions and $135 to $195 for follow-ups, depending on your state. For psychiatry services, self-pay intake sessions are $255–$375, with follow-ups ranging from $175–$300, also varying by state. A common misconception is that couples therapy is only for couples who are having major problems in their relationship. In truth, relationship counseling offers you the opportunity to get to better know your partner, yourself, and both of your concerns and needs. It can be helpful whether your relationship is on the brink of disaster or could just use a tune-up.
There are many reasons why a couple might seek counseling. These can include:
Both new couples and established couples can benefit from taking the time and energy to nurture and develop their relationship with their significant other. When you’re ready to take the next step, Thriveworks Counseling in Salem, OR is here to help.
Relationships are incredibly intimate. This is one of the reasons that people are sometimes hesitant to pursue couples counseling. But a professional therapist or counselor can add clarity to your relationship, help you strengthen your bonds, and provide a safe space to air grievances. Attending therapy sessions can even introduce you to new ways of resolving conflicts.
Before your therapy begins, your provider will take the time to get to know you and your spouse. Each of you will have the chance to share your challenges and to listen to the other’s concerns. The type of therapy you receive will be based on your particular situation, but your provider may provide cognitive, emotional, or solution-based forms of therapy that require active participation from you and your spouse both inside and outside of the therapist’s office.
No matter what strategy your counselor introduces, the ultimate goal of the session is to resolve conflict and provide long-term support. If you believe you could benefit from the help of a licensed marriage and family therapist, please reach out to us at Thriveworks in Salem, OR.
The emotional and mental health of you and your spouse is important. That’s why we strive to create an environment that is supportive, responsive, and conducive to learning.
If you’d like to continue to develop your marriage or relationship, consider setting up a remote or in-person appointment. New clients can often book a same-week appointment, and will have evening and weekend sessions to choose from. Plus, we accept most major insurances.
