Abe Clabby is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) who specializes in treating relationship issues, workaholism, trauma, codependency, depression, anxiety, autism, and attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Abe spent the last 6 years at the Love Is Respect hotline and the National Domestic Violence Hotline, where he has seen the best and the worst that family and relationships have to offer. He is the author of "Cool Off the Burnout: Feel Better at High-Pressure Jobs".
Abe completed his master's degree in Counseling at St. Edward's University, where he earned a 3.7 GPA and spent an extra semester taking courses in marriage and family therapy. In postgraduate training like the Gottman method, Abe found what some couples do that makes them thrive. There are things that help with a partner, but they also help with our parents, our jobs, and our friends. Abe uses motivational interviewing in a client-centered way, empowering people to change the narrative and find an existential purpose for what they do and using the tools of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to get around the obstacles where people feel stuck.
Abe works with a lot of good-hearted people. They're compassionate and want to do good in the world and to help people they love. Caring people can be taken for granted, taken advantage of, and even hurt and used. They can be left feeling empty, unfulfilled, and unloved. But with the right mindset, boundaries, and self-care, they can be respected, appreciated, and live a life that they're proud of. Abe helps people care for others and in turn, care for themselves. With therapy, people can troubleshoot their troubles in jobs and relationships. Everyone has more options than they realize.

Relationship counseling, also known as couples-therapy and marriage counseling, helps couples work through their specific relationship issues. It is led by licensed professionals — often licensed marriage and family therapists (LMFTs) — who are experts in their field and best equipped to help couples. Some examples of common focuses within relationship counseling include:
Relationship counseling works by helping couples identify and better navigate their unique challenges. Following an initial assessment of the couple in terms of strengths and needs, the therapist would then discuss their therapeutic goals and any possible approaches or ways of working together as therapist and couple.Couples attend sessions together, whether they meet in person or by video. In addition to regular couples therapy sessions, each partner may also be asked to attend a few individual sessions to supplement their progress. This will allow their counselor to get to know each individual better, assess each of their personal needs, and develop the very best treatment plan moving forward.
Thriveworks relationship counseling in Red Bank is conducted both in person and virtually via online counseling. We encourage you to choose the option that works best for you and your partner.
On average, couples attend relationship counseling for 12 weeks. However, relationship counseling may last longer or shorter, dependent on the couples’ needs, the challenges they’d like to work through, and the pace of their progress.
With the right tools and practices, your relationship can be as fruitful and happy as it was in the beginning. Thriveworks in Red Bank, NJ has relationship counselors who are here to walk alongside both of you as we traverse the crazy world of love.
For more information or to schedule an appointment, give us a call at 732-606-4469.
Some common issues our Red Bank relationship counselors help couples walk through include:
There is never a too small or too big problem for our relationship counselors! Everything from recovering from cheating to petty arguments are important because they affect you and your health. So, whatever you are experiencing, Thriveworks Red Bank offers a safe spot for you and your loved one to heal and grow together.
Thriveworks Red Bank believes every person is unique, and that makes every relationship unique. This means that there is no one-size fits all counseling strategy. You deserve something that will fit your situation, goals, and individual personality. Every relationship has their own rhythm to it, and each one wants to grow into something different. Our job is not to judge where you are going but to help you get there in a healthy, lasting matter.
With that in mind, couples therapy doesn’t have a set of rules or regulations. A Red Bank couples therapist will take the first session to talk to you and your partner through what counseling will look like for you. We’ll talk goals, possible setbacks, and first steps. We strive to create an interactive environment—we are partners in the counseling process, not leader and follower. Couples therapists might be the experts in relationship psychology and know all the techniques to help you, but you are still the expert on yourself and on your relationship, and that is equally as important.
A few of the specifics we might talk about include:
Relationships can be a life-giving source when they are healthy, and a toxic, life-taking source when they are unhealthy. You deserve what is best for you and your relationship. It can be hard to see what this is through the love and heartbreak of a relationship, and that is where Thriveworks Red bank Couples Therapy steps in. We are excited to meet you and your partner and start down the path of healing and growth together.
