About
I strongly believe in a person’s ability to be able to overcome difficult situations that may arise in their lives. That ability comes from self-motivation and guidance using a unified approach by problem solving, gaining insight, and implementing strategies to alleviate symptoms. My name is Courtney and I have 15 years of experience. I hold a Master's of Science degree in Mental Health Counseling from UAlbany. Prior to obtaining my Master's degree, I attended UCONN to double major in Psychology and Human Development and Family Studies. I am currently licensed as an LPC in the state of Connecticut. I have experience providing group, individual, and family therapy in the community, inpatient hospital, outpatient facility, group home, and residential settings. I have been able to serve diverse populations and have varied experience with people of differing ages, race, religion, sexual orientation, and diagnoses. I am passionate about working with individuals struggling with parenting and behavioral needs of their children, anxiety, depression, life transitions, relationship concerns, and substance abuse. I typically use CBT, mindfulness, dialectical behavioral therapy, and solution focused techniques to assist in mitigating the struggles people are experiencing. Most importantly I use a collaborative approach as the client is the expert of their lives and my role is to help provide guidance and feedback rather than to dictate and force opinions. I look forward to meeting you and being a help to you in anyway that I can.

Anxiety therapy helps people better understand and manage their anxiety. Anxiety therapists at Thriveworks in Milford, CT can develop a treatment plan that will help you better manage your day-to-day anxiety or your anxiety disorder.
Anxiety therapy involves talking to a therapist about symptoms, potential causes, and more. Thriveworks Milford therapists will then work with you to determine where your anxiety might stem from and teach you effective coping mechanisms.
One of the best ways to deal with anxiety is to learn about your own anxiety: your symptoms, what triggers it, and what coping mechanisms have been effective in the past. When you learn what your anxiety is tied to, it can help you be mindful of what’s really happening as well as prevent and mitigate symptoms by processing and working through the issue in therapy. Other strategies that have been shown to help manage anxiety are meditation, challenging anxious thoughts, exercising, and journaling.
Common symptoms of anxiety include:
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) can be incredibly effective in treating anxiety and anxiety disorders. Other effective techniques include exposure therapy, Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and EMDR therapy.
Anxiety therapy is conducted both in person and online, depending on the individual’s preferences and their therapist’s availability. We suggest choosing the option that best suits your needs.
On average, people can tend to attend 15 to 20 session of anxiety therapy (five or more months). However, this number is heavily dependent on the type of anxiety that’s being treated and its severity, with many choosing to attend anxiety therapy for a longer period of time to ensure its effectiveness long-term.

Occasional anxiety is normal and something that we all experience. You might feel anxious at work when your boss calls you in for an unexpected meeting; or, you might feel anxious about your four-year-old starting preschool. But, when this occasional anxiety turns into excessive everyday anxiety, that is when it becomes a problem. “Some symptoms of anxiety are feelings of nervousness, shortness of breath, increased heart rate, difficulty focusing, digestive or gastrointestinal issues, and trembling or muscle twitching,” says Bernadette Hernandez, Licensed Professional Counselor at Thriveworks in Milford.
Anxiety therapy has shown to be an effective measure of treatment and often involves talking with your therapist or psychologist about your anxiety symptoms, potential causes of your anxiety disorder, as well as how to manage (or even eliminate) your anxiety. A common approach to anxiety therapy is cognitive behavioral therapy, which can help you change your thoughts that lead to anxiety and other negative feelings.
If you experience anxiety that exceeds everyday or occasional worry, you might be wondering if you have an anxiety disorder. Many are familiar with generalized anxiety disorder, but there are many other forms of anxiety too, including social anxiety, panic disorder, and specific phobia. Let’s take a closer look at these anxiety disorders:
