Need more help deciding?

OCD Counseling / OCD Therapy, Media, PA, Delaware County

If you ask yourself any of these questions, then you may be suffering from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, or OCD for short, and should consider consulting with a licensed mental health practitioner:

  • Why do I implement rituals to keep bad things from happening to me or someone?
  • Why do I worry that if I don’t do things that bad things will happen?
  • Why do I repetitively check the doors, locks, stove, and/or windows?
  • Why do I have to line everything up on my desk and get stressed if it isn’t perfect?

Reach out to Thriveworks Media today for OCD counseling. We offer many convenient benefits, including evening and weekend sessions, and we look forward to helping you.

What Is Obsessive Compulsive Disorder?

According to the National Institute of Mental Health, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is a disorder that affects nearly 2 million people. It is a disorder in which a person has uncontrollable, reoccurring thoughts (obsessions) and behaviors (compulsions) that he or she feels the urge to repeat over and over again. NIMH reports OCD is a fairly common, chronic and long-lasting disorder that can and often does impact all aspects of a person’s life, including school, work, and their relationships.

What Are the Symptoms of OCD?

OCD obsessions are repeated, persistent and unwanted thoughts, urges or images that are intrusive and cause distress or anxiety. A person suffering from OCD will often fear touching objects that have been touched by others. They will fear harming themselves or others. They will often fear not turning the stove off, or locking the doors, and windows. The obsessive thoughts normally consist of the following:

  1. Repeated unwanted ideas
  2. Fear of contamination
  3. Aggressive impulses
  4. Persistent sexual thoughts
  5. Images of hurting someone you love
  6. Thoughts that you might cause others harm
  7. Thoughts that you might be harmed

What Are Compulsions?

OCD compulsions are repetitive behaviors that are displayed to relieve the anxiety and distress resulting from the obsession. Repetitive behaviors can consist of counting a specific number of times, compulsively washing hands, needing objects to face a certain direction all in order to avoid something bad from happening to yourself or others. The following are compulsive behaviors associated with OCD.

  1. Constant checking
  2. Constant counting
  3. The repeated cleaning of one or more items
  4. Repeatedly washing your hands
  5. Constantly checking the stove, door locks, or windows
  6. Arranging items to face a certain way

What kind of treatment can I receive for OCD?

Two common treatments used to help improve OCD are psychotherapy and medication management. They can be administered together and or separately, but the most effective treatment being a combination of both.

I looked around for a therapist for a month or so I found this place and I read and reread the reviews and Lauren’s bio a few times When I finally called a few months ago the woman who took my information and answered my questions, I specifically asked if I needed a new letter for my emotional support dog would they be able to help. She assured me absolutely yes. We do it all the time Now a few months into my sessions I asked Lauren for a letter to give my landlord. Lauren informed me over 3 weeks ago she would ask her boss. 2 weeks later she told me no, her boss said no. I had to go online. A year ago my landlord did not like the online one and wanted it from a local Therapist This past week when I had my appointment with Lauren, she said she couldn’t, i asked what kind of therapist she was. Because I was told when I decided to come to your practice that I could get one, I was told I had to have a few sessions with the therapist Now on Tuesday 2/13 I asked, she told me she was meeting with her boss the next day and would tell him what I was told She said she would email me the next day, now it’s Saturday and nothing. I now am so upset that I put all this time into a therapist that isn’t qualified to write a letter, not because of her, but from some rule that I was lied to about on the onset Now I really think I need to go find a true therapist The fact I’m told to go online to get one from a stranger, while I am in therapy Makes me question your practice In sales we call it bait and switch

I am pleased to have someone I can tell how I am feeling that I would not express to family or friends. The medication helps me to get a better night sleep and helps me feel better the following days and to cope throughout the days that follow.
