What is your go-to approach for dialectical behavior therapy?

My go-to approach for helping people in dialectical behavior therapy is emotional regulation. This allows the client to understand and manage their emotions effectively.

What tools do you teach in dialectical behavior therapy?

DBT tools/skills include identifying and labeling emotions, reducing emotional vulnerability, and increasing positive emotional experiences.

How do you know when a client is making meaningful progress in dialectical behavior therapy?

A client is making meaningful progress in DBT when behavioral changes occur, such as decreased self-harming behaviors, increased emotional regulation, and improvements in personal relationships.

What can clients do in their personal time to supplement dialectical behavior therapy?

To supplement DBT, clients can do “homework” outside sessions. This might include mindfulness exercises, using specific distress tolerance techniques, or completing emotion regulation worksheets.

What should someone do to prepare for starting dialectical behavior therapy?

To prepare for DBT, a client should come to their first session with an open mind, ready to work.

Thriveworks helped me realize that I do believe people can change. I’m not the person I was three months ago, broken and fearful. I’m healthy and happy and for the first time being kind to myself. Thank you for giving me my life back.
