What is your go-to approach for cognitive behavioral therapy?

My go-to approach in CBT therapy when explaining it to others is the idea that “I cannot change anything around me; I can only change my mind.” I encourage clients to look at their situations from different perspectives so they reframe how they look at their issues.

What tools do you teach in cognitive behavioral therapy?

The tools I teach in CBT sessions are reframing negative thoughts, journaling, challenging self-talk, and deep breathing.

How do you know when a client is making meaningful progress in cognitive behavioral therapy?

I know a client is making meaningful progress in CBT when they begin to reframe their own thoughts without me bringing it to their attention and feel more confident in their decisions.

What can clients do in their personal time to supplement cognitive behavioral therapy?

Clients can supplement CBT therapy by reading books on CBT by qualified authors.

What should someone do to prepare for starting cognitive behavioral therapy?

To prepare for CBT counseling, the client should begin to explore their feelings about being challenged. If the client is super sensitive to rejection or being challenged, the client should prepare to share that with their therapist so they can structure their treatment plan accordingly.

Thriveworks helped me realize that I do believe people can change. I’m not the person I was three months ago, broken and fearful. I’m healthy and happy and for the first time being kind to myself. Thank you for giving me my life back.
