My go-to approach for helping people in grief & loss counseling is by holding space. I find that providing someone space where they can process their grief & loss is the best place to start.
Self care is always a helpful place to start when beginning a therapy journey. Discussing self care and providing information on what it is, is often helpful in regaining energy to manage day to day tasks. Emotional regulation skills are also very helpful for navigating grief. Grief can tend to feel like a rollercoaster and emotional regulation skills can help smooth out the ride.
