Brittany Aiken is a Licensed Professional Counselor with more than 3 years of experience in mental health. She currently specializes in helping people dealing with symptoms of depression and anxiety due to various life changes. She creates a safe environment for you to talk about the things that are going on, assists you in determining what your goals for therapy are, and, through collaboration, helps you figure out changes that will work to accomplish those goals. During your time together, you and Brittany will build a rapport that will make you feel comfortable sharing, supported, and enthusiastic about the changes you've made.
Brittany utilizes a holistic approach, incorporating different techniques that may be beneficial to your personal needs. Additionally, she implements cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, mindfulness, person-centered techniques, and culturally sensitive therapy techniques.
Therapy is not a "one size fits all" type of situation. You are unique and your needs should be addressed based on you only. In order for therapy to be effective, you must be committed to the process and open to trying new things.

My go-to approach for helping people in online therapy is to make sure that clients feel comfortable while using online services. I ask that they be in a safe place with no distractions, as it can be easy to get distracted by the environment. Once this is established, I proceed with the session as normal.
I teach the following tools in online therapy:
I know a client is making meaningful progress in individual therapy when they are able to successfully navigate challenges on their own with the tools provided in individual therapy. The client starts to recognize and address barriers that keep them in the cycle of their overwhelming symptoms.
Clients can supplement their time in individual therapy by building a routine of activities learned in individual therapy. I encourage clients to build a healthy support system for accountability in mental health maintenance.
To prepare for your first individual therapy session, I encourage writing down your thoughts and concerns before your session so that all concerns can be discussed in the intake session. Also, for online therapy, try to make sure that technology is working properly to ensure no disconnections while in online therapy. Do not be nervous; clinicians are here to listen and help.
With Thriveworks, Online therapy is an effective alternative to in-person therapy services in which a client can speak to a Thriveworks therapist remotely via online video conferencing. Online sessions are just as effective as in-person treatment, but they can also provide added benefits like reduced travel time, saving money on transportation or childcare, and increased access to care.
Online therapy works much like traditional in-person therapy but takes place through secure video conferencing. Clients can attend Online therapy from any safe place they choose that has access to the internet, whether that be their home or another easily accessible place. Like in-person treatment, a therapist will work with their client to address their concerns, create goals, and establish an effective treatment plan.
There is no best option for online therapy—instead, it’s best to focus on finding a provider that meets your specific needs and with whom you can form a professional connection with.
Yes, online therapy is just as effetive for many clients as in-person sessions.
Online therapy can last for a few months to years depending on the goals and symptoms of the client. The treatment process will be unique to each client and lend itself to their specific concerns, which means that the time it takes to treat them will always be different. Timing is also up to the client themselves; they are free to stop therapy whenever they please, especially if they feel they have reached their goals and addressed their concerns.
At Thriveworks, we accept most major insurance plans, allowing many clients to pay as little as $0–$50 per session with their co-pay. We also offer self-pay options for those out-of-network or without insurance. Self-pay rates for talk therapy range from $160 to $240 for intake sessions and $135 to $195 for follow-ups, depending on your state. For psychiatry services, self-pay intake sessions are $255–$375, with follow-ups ranging from $175–$300, also varying by state. More information on current self-pay costs is available on our pricing page.
The Internet has created countless opportunities to do anything from buying a car to experiencing virtual reality. We shop online, go to school online, work online, game online, date online, and even seek medical treatment online. It’s increasingly more common for us to look for opportunities to get help or complete a task online instead of in-person. That’s why online counseling has become the natural choice for so many people seeking mental health support today. If you’re interested in giving online counseling a try, reach out to Thriveworks Columbia today to schedule.
Online counseling provides the same level of mental health support that clients find in traditional in-person therapy. When you meet with an online therapist, you’ll find that your therapist actively listens and is fully engaged in thought with you. Online counseling can be done from the privacy of your home or office, so you can pick the environment that feels most comfortable to you.
