About
As a person driven by effecting change in humanity, I understand the need for healing in our communities and therefore seek to support healthy positive efforts to be the change that I want to see in the world.
I am a clinical mental health and substance abuse therapist with the licensures LPCC, LICDC, in the state of Ohio as well as a certified somatic therapy foundations practitioner. I provide clinical therapy to individuals, couples & families.
I primarily use implementation of evidence-based cognitive, behavioral motivational family systems and reality-based therapeutic tools to support guidance through a journey towards empowerment for a happy healthy balanced well-being.
I close out each session by asking clients if they have any questions, giving a summary wrap-up of the discussion, thanking them for taking a huge step toward the healing process and allowing me to be a part of it, and giving them the steps for setting up follow-up appointments.

Reaching out for help is hard for a lot of folks, so as a clinical therapist, I think it's important that I not only bring my clinical expertise and authentic self to a session, but that my clients are provided relaxed, down-to-earth space where they can finally catch their breath and begin their healing journey.
Hi, I'm Mary Schehl, LISW (Licensed Independent Social Worker) with over 25 years of clinical experience working with individuals, couples and families, who are overwhelmed by anxiety, depression, relationship stress and unresolved trauma. I've worked in a variety of settings such as inpatient, home and community-based and for the past 11 years I've been in private practice. I bring my clinical expertise, authenticity and some light humor to our sessions together, providing a warm, non-judgmental space, where you can unpack what you're going through.
My approach is collaborative and grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Mindfulness practices. You are the author of your own story and I'll go wherever you take me, while helping you build practical tools and have a better understanding of the root of your patterns.
It isn't easy to change one's perspective, nor does it happen immediately. It's a healing journey, not just a "process", and I would be honored to accompany you on this journey. If you think I'd be a good fit for what you're looking for and need in a provider, I invite you to take the next step by scheduling an appointment.
You deserve dedicated time with a mental health professional — it can be life-changing.

Grief and loss counseling helps people grieve difficult losses including the death of a loved one, the loss of a job, or the end of a relationship. Thriveworks grief therapists in Cincinnati, OH have specific experience, training, and skills that enable them to best support grieving individuals.
Grief and loss counseling isn’t one-size-fits-all, but it involves sharing about your loss and then working with your counselor to acknowledge and accept your new reality in its wake. Your provider at Thriveworks in Cincinnati, OH will design your treatment plan around your unique needs and goals for therapy, applying the counseling techniques that best support them.
If you have recently experienced an event like the death of a loved one, a breakup or divorce, the loss of a job, or another major life change, then you may want to seek grief and loss counseling. Grief can be caused by many experiences and events, so if you feel that you are having trouble moving on from a certain event or find that it is still impacting your life and functioning, grief and loss counseling can help you process it more effectively so that you can move on and once again find fulfillment and satisfaction in your life.
There are many counseling theories for treating grief, one of the most frequently used being the dual process model of grief which helps people acknowledge who or what they’ve lost through rumination while also adjusting to the new roles and identities that this loss has now placed on them. There are also many commonly used therapy approaches used in grief and loss counseling, including Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and traumatic grief therapy.
Grief & loss counseling at Thriveworks is conducted both in person and online by video. We encourage you to choose the option that works best for you.
For many, grief and loss counseling lasts for about 6 months. For others, it may last shorter or longer, depending on the severity of their loss and their grief.
