About
As a working mom, I understand the issue of work-life balance coupled with learning how to regulate and manage your emotions.
Emily Heming is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with 3 years of experience in the mental health field and 6 years of experience in the behavioral health field. She is passionate about helping adolescents and adults feel empowered and validated. Emily offers counseling to individuals, couples, and families dealing with a wide range of issues including but not limited to depression, anxiety, grief, anger, trauma, self-esteem, and life transitions. Her goal is to create a secure, welcoming environment to discuss and reflect on all areas of life.
Emily received her Master of Social Work from Northern Arizona University. She uses a variety of approaches including dialectical behavior therapy, emotionally focused therapy, positive psychology, and family systems. After learning in the first session what led a client to her, she will tailor a plan of care to fit their needs.
With a warm cup of tea in hand, Emily promises to remain attentive, respectful, and constructive as you collaborate on your goals. Coping skills, communication style, and emotional response are all up for reflection. Schedule a session with her today!

With couples therapy, it is helpful to work from a cognitive behavioral standpoint, as utilizing strengths while addressing needs is helpful to relationships.
I teach the following tools:
Couples often begin counseling by arguing and having a sense of frustration with one another, so when couples begin to listen to and reconnect with one another, it is a great sign of progress.
Clients can supplement couples counseling by thinking about what they love most about each other and doing simple things like taking a walk or going on a date night.
To prepare for counseling, find a therapist that you both feel comfortable with and know that this is a big and meaningful step to take together toward growth.
Couples therapy and marriage counseling, also known as relationship counseling, helps couples work through their specific relationship issues. Some examples of common focuses within couples therapy and marriage counseling include:

At Thriveworks, Couples/marriage therapy is led by licensed professionals — often licensed marriage and family therapists (LMFTs) — who are experts in their field and best-equipped to help couples.
The Gottman Method of couples therapy is a research-supported approach designed to enhance relationships by bolstering the bond between partners, resolving conflicts, and fostering shared meaning in their relationship through comprehensive assessments and tailored interventions that improve communication, trust, and the overall health of the partnership.
If you’re facing persistent relationship problems, communication breakdowns, or unresolved conflicts that are impacting your emotional well-being and happiness, Couples/marriage therapy may be beneficial for you.
While marriage and couple’s counseling is typically recommended for couples who are experiencing persistent or severe relationship issues, any relationship can benefit from attending these sessions.
Marriage and couples counseling at Thriveworks is conducted both in person and online by video. We encourage you to choose the option that works best for you and your partner.
On average, couples attend marriage and couples counseling for 12 weeks. However, couples & marriage counseling may last longer or shorter, dependent on the couples’ needs, the challenges they’d like to work through, and the pace of their progress.
