In therapy, we will use different skills and techniques that are tailored specifically for you and your needs/goals. We all have different personalities and ways we perceive the world where we need to learn how to manage concerns/stressors that arise. Whether you are struggling with daily routines, time management and organizational skills, financial concerns, fear/worries, sadness, unhealthy coping skills, religious struggles, medical concerns, and more, we will work together to achieve the goals you desire in a holistic manner.
We all need someone to talk with in a world of "virtual reality" where we can work through the treasures of our hearts that we hold dear. Be encouraged; you are not alone. Talking to a stranger about your hurt, pain, sorrow, and disappointments is not easy, but you have the strength within you to reach out for help where you will have a warm and welcoming space awaiting you.

My go-to therapy with kids is play-based therapy! Play therapy helps to pair symbolic play with verbal expression; it allows us to better understand a child’s internal world.
Common skills taught in child therapy are emotional regulation, emotion identification, and skill-building (e.g. asking for help, waiting for a turn).
A client can know a child is making progress if the child is demonstrating any improvement in behavior. Caregivers can also ask the child directly, or talk with their therapist or PCP.
Clients can supplement child therapy with family therapy!
A caregiver can explain that a therapist is a trusted adult whom the child is seeing to help them with their big feelings!
Child therapy, also known as counseling for kids, helps young individuals better understand and manage the challenges that affect their mental health. Common challenges amongst kids include behavioral issues, trauma, bullying, depression, and anxiety. All ages of children can attend and benefit from child therapy at Thriveworks Attleboro.
Child therapy works by using multiple techniques tailored to fit the child’s needs based on their age group, their challenges, and the severity of their challenges. It might involve play therapy for younger kids or cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, art therapy, and others for varying ages. In any case, Thriveworks child therapists in Attleboro, MA have the expertise and experience to help kids at their level.
Child therapy is a type of therapy meant for clients within a specific age group, while play therapy is an approach to therapy that helps children with self-expression and stress relief, among others. Play therapy is a technique that is often used in child therapy to help children express what’s running through their minds when they do not have the words to express their thoughts and emotions. It can get children to express what’s wrong, what might be causing unwanted behaviors, or what they might need in a way that is accessible to them so that therapists can then work to treat the issue.
It’s not always obvious when a child should see a therapist for their behavior, though in the midst of challenges like divorce, loss, bullying, and other mental health conditions, it’s often a good idea to seek it out. Common behaviors that can indicate a need for child therapy include separation anxiety, bedwetting (at inappropriate ages), and agitation/excessive irritability — especially if it reaches a point of physical violence.
Cognitive behavioral therapy at Thriveworks in Attleboro, MA is one of the best types of therapy for children. However, it can be administered in child therapy sessions in a variety of ways that are more accessible to young minds, such as play therapy.
Child therapy at Thriveworks is conducted both in person and online by video. We encourage you to choose the option that works best for you.
The length of child therapy depends on your child’s needs as well as the goals that you and their therapist might have for them. Generally, child therapy sessions will last for several months.
At Thriveworks, we accept most major insurance plans, allowing many clients to pay as little as $0–$50 per session with their co-pay. Self-pay rates for talk therapy range from $160 to $240 for intake sessions and $135 to $195 for follow-ups, depending on your state. For psychiatry services, self-pay intake sessions are $255–$375, with follow-ups ranging from $175–$300, also varying by state. More information on current self-pay costs is available on our pricing page.
As parents, our job is to raise our children to the best of our abilities—this means teaching them about mental and emotional health as well as helping them to maintain it. Sometimes, though, kids need or could benefit from a third party’s help and support. That’s where child therapy comes in. Child therapy helps kids overcome challenges and grow well for many years to come. In fact, there are therapy techniques designed specifically for kids, like play therapy.

Child therapy focuses on meeting the psychological needs of both children and teenagers. As we get older, it’s easy to forget the struggles we went through as kids: navigating social relationships, keeping up with schoolwork, dealing with stressors at home, sorting through new, unexplored emotions. There are times when kids can benefit from a little professional help, just as there are times when us adults can benefit from a little professional help.
The child counselors at our office have completed supervised training working with children. They also have plenty of experience under their belt, which further enables them to help kids of varying ages and with different challenges. Your child or teenager might benefit from a therapist’s help and support if they’re going through one of the following:
If your child is suffering as the result of the above (or another issue that didn’t make the list), they might benefit from talking to one of our professionals. We see that kids often feel more comfortable opening up to one of our therapists, of whom provides them with a safe, nonjudgmental space for working through their challenges.
