As a clinician with 22 years of experience in the mental health field, I understand the unique issues of clients with different personal, ethnic, racial, and cultural backgrounds.
Catherine Roberts is a Licensed Professional Counselor with 22 years of experience in the mental health field. She understands the unique issues of clients with different personal, ethnic, racial, and cultural backgrounds.
Catherine enjoys working with clients who are experiencing self-identity, interpersonal relational issues that affect their job and family dynamics. This is her ideal type of client to work with because there is a lot of self-exploration the client will need to work on first. Some of the issues that will come up are self-loathing, lack of esteem, shame, and poor self-image. As a clinician, Catherine provides them support and total acceptance. When the client can begin to embrace and accept who they are without judgment, they can begin to work on how they relate to other people in all areas of their life. This can be done slowly and one step at a time. The pace is usually set by the client and how they progress along in treatment as they embrace each stage of their new self.
Catherine began her career in the mental health field as a therapist in an inpatient facility, responsible for the patient's ongoing clinical progress while at the hospital. Her patients varied in ages from 10 to 12-year-old children, to 13 to 17-year-old adolescents, to 18 to 55-year-old adults, and seniors who were in crisis. She worked with patients who were diagnosed with Schizophrenia, Schizoaffective Disorder, Anxiety, Major Depression, Obsessive Impulsive Disorder, ADHD, Bipolar Disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder, Mood Disorder, Alcohol/Drug Dependency, Conduct Disorder, and Sleep disorder, just to name a few.
Catherine really enjoys getting to know people while working with them on their unique concerns. She offers a very supportive and client-centered environment to therapy, and she loves helping clients move toward their goals by being a partner in their journey towards a renewed self and clinically appropriate treatment. She enjoys working with clients and assigning them research-based homework activities to help them work independently on areas of concerns outside of the sessions. Her areas of specialty include cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), mindfulness, motivational interviewing, interpersonal therapy, and other researched based therapeutic approaches that are appropriate to treatment.

To paraphrase an old but true saying, “the only thing constant in life is change.” One thing that was left out is that change can often times be scary and hard. Just when we think things are going good, life has a way of throwing us a curve ball just to make things “interesting.” Whether you are experiencing difficulty with coping with changes related to your emotions, your relationships, your job, your health, or just life in general, counseling can help. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with approximately 12 years of experience with working with children, adults, families, and couples. I am proud to have an all-inclusive practice that serves clients and families of varying ethnicities, sexual orientations, socio-economic status, and other cultural backgrounds. I take pride in providing a comfortable and welcoming (yet always professional) environment where clients are encouraged to be open and honest. My primary goal is to help my clients to uncover their innate ability to adapt and thrive despite any challenges they may face. Common issues that I help with include depression, anxiety, self-esteem, anger management, relationship stressors, behavior issues, trauma and abuse, stress management, relational codependency, suicidal thoughts, and grief. I utilize a holistic/systems approach to counseling in order to understand the impact that a client’s mental, social, emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being may have on the issues that they are facing. While I believe quality training is important, I also believe that it is just as important to find a counselor that is a good “fit.” I would the love the opportunity to see if I am a good fit to help assist you on your journey. With online counseling (within the state of Georgia), and 24/7 scheduling, you are just one mouse click/phone call of way, so…let’s HEAL together!

Hannah has a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and has been a licensed therapist since 2014. She has worked in a variety of settings with several populations. Trauma therapy is a therapeutic approach that focuses on treating the psychological impact of traumatic events on individuals. Trauma therapy helps people process and heal from their trauma by guiding them through their trauma in a compassionate and supportive way, allowing clients to feel the full scope of what happened to them and eventually move on from the event(s). This process helps people who have experienced trauma find ways to feel safe in their lives.
Trauma therapy will often require individuals to walk through their experiences in a controlled and compassionate setting (unless the client has a dissociative disorder) so that they can fully process the event, an activity that will allow them to move on from what happened and feel safe again. Thriveworks Woodstock therapists will also help clients learn healthy coping mechanisms to deal with their symptoms outside of therapy.
Thriveworks trauma counseling in Woodstock, GA is conducted both in person and online through online therapy. We encourage you to choose the option that works best for you.
If an individual is working through a single event that occurred during adulthood, they may only need a few months of treatment. However, in instances of childhood trauma or repeated traumatic events, therapy may continue over the course of years. Trauma therapy usually ends when the client believes they have met their therapeutic goals, however long that takes to occur. Thriveworks therapists in Woodstock, GA will continue to provide care for as long as necessary to help clients meet their therapeutic needs.
“Trauma creates changes you don’t choose. Healing is about creating change you do choose.” –Michelle Rosenthal
An emotional, physical, or sexual trauma is something no one deserves to go through. It can have devastating effects on your thoughts, emotions, and behavior. But while some traumas may leave scars, healing is possible. And you don’t have to do it alone. The therapists at Thriveworks Trauma Counseling Woodstock are here to walk beside you as you heal and grow.
How we respond to a trauma will be very different from the person next to us. Each experience is real, painful, and scary. How we heal from a trauma will also be different. Many people may experience anxiety, depression, or anger as they process and respond to what happened to them. Sometimes how they feel will change frequently, other times it can feel like they’re stuck in the same spot for years.
A trauma can steal your peace and happiness, but you have the power to take it back. Healing isn’t always comfortable and reaching out takes immense courage. Thank you for showing that courage now. Our Thriveworks Woodstock counselors are here for you to lean on and learn from as you fight for the life you deserve.
What makes the human brain so extraordinary also makes it susceptible to trauma. Our brains fully interact and process the world at a speed and depth hardly imaginable. Trauma can actually mold the brain into an unhealthy version. When this happens, it can act like we’re always on the brink of danger. It’s as if you can’t trust your own brain- a frustrating experience to say the least.
Fortunately, the brain can also be molded back. Researchers coined the term neuroplasticity to describe how trauma (and other events) can disfigure the brain and its connections, but also how healing can occur. Together, you and a Thriveworks Woodstock Trauma counselor can rebuild your life the way you imagine it.
Symptoms of a trauma may include:
Trauma intrudes on all aspects of your life, creating too many symptoms to just list here. The type of trauma, personality, and previous experiences all go into shaping how you respond to a trauma. It can be isolating to not have anyone who understands. You don’t have to be alone anymore, though. Thriveworks Woodstock believe in putting the client first. We listen, guide, and support, but allow you to lead your own healing.
It’s always safest to call if you think you could benefit from talking to a professional. The quicker we start down the path of healing, the quicker you can have control of your life again.
Every Thriveworks counseling session will be unique to you and your situation. We strive to be your partner in the healing process, not your leader. Afterall, you know yourself best!
We do have a few tools that can help us on our way. Some of these include:
Healing from a trauma can seem impossible. Thriveworks Woodstock is here to reassure you that it’s not. You do have the strength to overcome your trauma. It’s not a walk in the park, but that’s why it is important to have a partner to walk beside you. We are here to maximize your time and get you to a healthy, happy place quicker than before.
Your present does not belong to your past. You can give us a call today and begin healing.
