As a psychologist for nearly 30 years, I am personally and professionally compassionate about the struggles that lead to emotional challenges and work with people to overcome barriers to feeling good about themselves, relationships, and cope with losses.
I am a licensed psychologist with 37 years of experience supporting individuals across the lifespan through life transitions, emotional challenges, and relational stress. I specialize in trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, and family issues. My work centers on building a trusting therapeutic relationship where the roots of distress can be explored, and healing becomes possible.
I earned my doctorate in clinical psychology from Antioch New England Graduate School. My approach integrates cognitive, emotional, and behavioral strategies to help clients gain insight, develop coping skills, and create meaningful, lasting change. Compassion, empathy, and clinical experience guide every step of our work together.
I will meet you where you are and help you navigate obstacles with clarity, support, and practical guidance. Together, we will identify new perspectives and pathways that move you forward. My goal is to help you feel understood, empowered, and equipped to live a more fulfilling and balanced life.

Our go-to approach for helping people in dialectical behavior therapy is to first teach them what DBT is and how it can benefit them. We prefer using the DBT skill workbook because it gives clients a tool to remember the things they learned in sessions.
We teach the following tools in dialectical behavior therapy: distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness, mindfulness, observation, emotional regulation, and mental body scanning.
We know a client is making meaningful progress in dialectical behavior therapy when they show us they understand and can demonstrate the skills they have learned.
Clients can supplement their time in dialectical behavior therapy by practicing the therapy skills they have learned in their home environment.
To prepare for their first dialectical behavior therapy session, an individual can go online and read about what DBT is or get a book about DBT from the library.
At Thriveworks, Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) primarily concentrates on assisting individuals in emotion regulation, enhancing interpersonal relationships, and acquiring effective coping strategies for managing stress and emotional difficulties.
Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) targets your personal challenges. You may work with your DBT therapist to maintain diary cards to monitor progress, emphasizing validation and support in the therapeutic relationship. DBT follows a stage-based approach, prioritizing crisis reduction initially and life satisfaction.
DBT was initially developed to address the needs of individuals with borderline personality disorder (BPD). However, its versatile approach has enabled its application to a wide range of mental health conditions, including but not limited to, anxiety, depression, stress, and anger issues.
The 4 pillars of DBT are mindfulness, emotion regulation, interpersonal effectiveness, and distress tolerance.
Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) have distinct purposes and aren’t inherently superior or inferior to one another. DBT is most effective for managing emotional regulation, personality disorders, and interpersonal challenges, while EMDR is specifically tailored for individuals with trauma-related conditions like post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) with therapists at Thriveworks in West Hartford, CT is conducted both in person and online by video. We encourage you to choose the option that works best for you.
The duration of a standard DBT program is typically around 24 weeks, which is roughly six months. The actual number of sessions will vary depending on the issues you wish to address.
