I mainly use CBT. CBT is versatile and it gives control to the client to figure out how best to achieve their goals.
I teach the following tools: gaining insight into the issues clients are facing, problem-solving skills, coping skills, breathing techniques, communication skills, self-awareness, expressing themselves through effective communication, stress reduction, and meditation.
I know a client is making progress in therapy when they are actively engaged and sharing their thoughts and feelings about the subject matter. I can also tell when the session is over and it feels like we just started, as that means we are both actively engaged in the subject matter of the meeting.
Clients can attend group therapy or a self-help group. They can also read written material online or in books related to the issues they are dealing with.
To prepare for the first session, clients can take a personal inventory of what they want to accomplish in therapy and write it down so they remember what they want to say.

There are many different forms of depression, such as major and minor depression, postpartum depression, bipolar disorder, and seasonal affective disorder. However, the most common is major depression, which is characterized by a profound sadness and affects over 16.1 million US adults in any given year. In addition to sadness and despair, those who struggle with major depression might also experience the following symptoms:
While these symptoms can vary on a case by case basis, for a depression diagnosis, one must experience at least 5 of the above symptoms, nearly every day for longer than two weeks at a time. They also must be so intense or severe that they significantly affect major areas of one’s life.
The signs and symptoms that an individual exhibits can differ. For this reason, depression therapy at Thriveworks Counseling is an individualized experience. Your treatment plan will likely include regular sessions with your therapist. During these sessions, your therapist will help you to work through the symptoms you are experiencing, understand and address potential causes of depression, and ultimately help you live a happier, healthier life.
