I am a Licensed Master Social Worker with 8 years of experience working in community mental health settings as well as military treatment facilities with a focus on anxiety, depression, grief, PTSD, life transitions, challenging family dynamics, stress management, and marital issues. I believe you are the subject matter expert in your life and the best narrator of your story. I earned my Master of Social Work from Widener University. I tailor treatment to individual client needs and use approaches including person-centered therapy, culturally sensitive therapy, psychotherapy, and motivational interviewing.
Whether this is your first therapeutic journey or a new chapter in your healing, I am grateful you have chosen to allow me to guide you. Making the decision to seek therapy is incredibly courageous. I have over 19 years experience working as a Social Worker and I am a licensed Master’s Social Worker. I have worked with a diverse population with a variety of diagnoses and situations. However, I believe that each person’s experience is unique and while they may be similar to someone else’s, no two people or situations are the same, therefore neither are the solutions. I provide a non-judgmental , compassionate, therapeutic environment. Working together is essential to creating a good therapeutic relationship and one that is most beneficial. I find that creating meaningful goals with clients based on specific needs really helps this process. Life is not meant to be figured out alone. I feel both honored and privileged to work with my clients helping them to overcome their obstacles and empowering them to do so.

My go-to approach for helping people in PTSD/trauma therapy is trauma-informed CBT skills. I find this method of support is most beneficial because it focuses on reducing physical arousal associated with the trauma reminders, improving coping skills to better manage the symptoms and working to understand the traumatic events in a way that allows the client to have control over the events rather than the events controlling the client.
I teach skills that allow a person to improve emotion regulation like deep breathing skills and grounding techniques. I also focus on skills that allow a person to reduce the intrusive or ruminating thoughts that are contributing to feeling stuck. These thoughts are a result of the trauma and learning to stop them will help reduce the impact from the trauma.
I know a client is making meaningful progress working through their PTSD/trauma when they have fewer noticeable symptoms of PTSD. We often see less hypervigilance, less avoidance, a more positive mood, and an easier time engaging in situations where a trauma reminder might be present.
I encourage clients to participate in positive self-care including meditation, mindfulness, and light exercise.
To prepare for their first PTSD/trauma therapy session, a client can reflect on their situation to understand the most important area of need. Understanding what areas of their life are being negatively impacted by the trauma can help them accurately describe their struggle and help create a direction for treatment.
Trauma therapy is a therapeutic approach that focuses on treating the psychological impact of traumatic events on individuals. Trauma therapy helps people process and heal from their trauma by guiding them through their trauma in a compassionate and supportive way, allowing clients to feel the full scope of what happened to them and eventually move on from the event(s). This process helps people who have experienced trauma find ways to feel safe in their lives.
Trauma therapy will often require individuals to walk through their experiences in a controlled and compassionate setting (unless the client has a dissociative disorder) so that they can fully process the event, an activity that will allow them to move on from what happened and feel safe again. Thriveworks Sterling Heights therapists will also help clients learn healthy coping mechanisms to deal with their symptoms outside of therapy.
Thriveworks trauma counseling in Sterling Heights, MI is conducted both in person and online through online therapy. We encourage you to choose the option that works best for you.
