Hi, I'm Michelle — and I'm so glad you're here. Taking that first step toward support takes courage, and I want you to know you've come to a safe, judgment-free space and I'd love to connect with you and learn more about what brings you here so that you don't have to figure this out alone.
I am Michelle Jones, LCSW, a licensed clinical social worker with over 20 years of experience in behavioral health. I hold Missouri licensure and have worked across outpatient mental health, inpatient psychiatry, substance abuse treatment, corrections, and hospice care. I work with individuals, couples, and groups navigating bipolar disorder, major depressive disorder, ADHD, anxiety disorders, PTSD, substance abuse, and behavior modification. My approach is compassionate, culturally sensitive, and tailored to help each client heal, grow, and thrive.
I use evidence-based approaches including CBT, DBT, and ACT to meet each client where they are. My style is collaborative and strength-based, helping clients identify patterns, build coping skills, and develop lasting tools for change in a structured, supportive space.

I am a licensed professional counselor (LPC) with a master's degree in clinical counseling and over 5 years of experience in the mental health field, including the past four years providing direct therapy. I have extensive experience working with teens and young adults, supporting them through a range of emotional and behavioral challenges while providing a supportive space for growth and healing. A go-to approach for helping people in teen counseling is providing clients with effective tools to navigate their way through life.
In teen counseling, often the most helpful tools are skills to cope with emotion dysregulation and distress tolerance to avoid making snap judgments. In addition, teaching interpersonal skills to help prepare them for becoming an adult can be useful.
A client is making meaningful progress in teen counseling when they are able to cope with their stressors in healthy ways.
Teens can supplement their time in counseling with journaling and/or “homework” assigned at end of each session.
To prepare for the first session, a teen can think about what they want to get out of it. If they are not doing it willingly, then they can just try to have an open mind.
Teen counseling helps young individuals better understand and manage the challenges that affect their mental health. Common challenges amongst teens include anxiety, depression, ADHD, and problematic relationships with food.
Teen counseling works by using multiple techniques, tailored to fit the teen’s unique needs — based on their age group, their challenges, and the severity of their challenges. It might involve cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, art therapy, and others for varying ages. Signs that teens might need Teen counseling can be very subjective, as they are experiencing many changes and can have intense reactions to them. As parents, you know your child best and are best equipped to judge whether certain reactions are standard behaviors for your teen or whether they might be hinting at a larger problem. Even so, there are a few common signs and events that often point to a need for therapy, such as experiencing divorce or loss, grief, consistent low moods, teens distancing themselves and becoming isolated, losing interest in hobbies, excessive anger or irritability, substance use issues, and suicidal ideation, among others.
