About
As a therapist who has been in the field for 9 years, I understand how complex each individual's story can be.
My clinical background includes working with individuals struggling with substance abuse, children and families in the foster care setting, victims and perpetrators of sexual abuse and assault, and clients with generalized anxiety, depression, eating disorders and trauma. I particularly enjoy working with young adults struggling with depression and anxiety who want to work on their self esteem and create a stronger sense of self-worth. I am also passionate about working with mothers, some of whom are struggling to adjust to motherhood, finding their voice, and recognizing their value within the family system. I love working with clients who are motivated and goal oriented to create the life that they want to live. I will support you along the way and help identify what exactly that looks like for you.
I offer a nonjudgmental clinical environment for clients to be able to process and identify what struggles they are currently faced with and start to unravel how those came to be. I would help to work through any experiences that you feel are relevant to where you are now and help you to connect how your experiences have shaped your thoughts, behaviors, and feelings. Clients have shared with me in the past that I am down to earth and that they feel comfortable opening up to me knowing that I will support them in their choices.
Life can be really challenging at times. Most of us go through life having some sort of idea or plan of what we want to happen and often times, we are faced with obstacles that we didn't plan for. Some of those can seem overwhelming and even impossible to navigate. I want you to know that I am here to help you figure out a way to cope and make improvements in your life. I'm hoping after reading my bio, you feel like we would be a good match together.

Charlotte Kelsey is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in the state of Massachusetts with over 3 years of experience providing clinical assessment and care to adult clients seeking treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, stress management, and life transitions. Charlotte’s passion for therapy started during her time as a patient care technician in a hospital trauma unit. Much of her time was spent at patients’ bedsides, listening to their stories.

As a clinician, she provides a person-centered approach to therapy with a focus on mindfulness-based, cognitive behavioral (CBT), and solutions-focused treatment. She is a steady advocate for sex positivity and a committed ally to the LGBTQIA+ community. She listens without judgment and strives to provide a place for individuals seeking a safer space.

Teen counseling helps young individuals better understand and manage the challenges that affect their mental health. Common challenges amongst teens include anxiety, depression, ADHD, and problematic relationships with food.
Teen counseling works by using multiple techniques, tailored to fit the teen’s unique needs — based on their age group, their challenges, and the severity of their challenges. It might involve cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, art therapy, and others for varying ages. In any case, Thriveworks teen therapists in Somerville have the expertise and experience to help young individuals at their level.
Signs that teens might need Teen counseling can be very subjective, as they are experiencing many changes and can have intense reactions to them. As parents, you know your child best and are best equipped to judge whether certain reactions are standard behaviors for your teen or whether they might be hinting at a larger problem. Even so, there are a few common signs and events that often point to a need for therapy, such as experiencing divorce or loss, grief, consistent low moods, teens distancing themselves and becoming isolated, losing interest in hobbies, excessive anger or irritability, substance use issues, and suicidal ideation, among others.
Teen counseling providers at Thriveworks in Somerville, MA offer both in person and online therapy by video. We encourage you to choose the option that works best for you.
The length of teen counseling depends on your teen’s needs as well as the goals that you and their therapist might have for them. Generally, teen counseling sessions will last for several months.
