Colette Spaulding is a Licensed MSW and has worked for 20 years in the mental health field. She views each client as a whole person, taking a client-centered approach and collaborating with them to match interventions with their particular needs. She has worked with survivors of abuse, domestic violence, and trauma, as well as clients with mood disorders, anxiety and depression, grief, relationship issues, and major life transitions. She utilizes multiple treatment modalities including Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT); Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), as well as psychodynamic, relational, and existential therapy strategies.
Colette completed her Master of Social Work (MSW) at the University of Michigan. Her professional experience includes working with culturally diverse populations in urban and rural settings, with a wide variety of mental health issues and challenges. This, coupled with her innate empathy and non-judgmental stance, enables her to provide her clients with the support and guidance they are seeking.
Colette asks, "What has happened to you?" rather than, "What is wrong with you?" She knows how important it is to establish a safe and compassionate space for her clients to share their unique stories. She will work with you to weave together elements of patterns, strengths, and coping skills; to increase self-awareness, improve your relationships, and promote the healing and growth you desire, to become the best version of you!

My go-to approach for treating anxiety is normalizing it and then teaching clients how to recognize and change unhelpful thoughts and patterns. I find the best benefit is knowing anxiety can be your friend and it can teach you something you need or aren't getting. It's good to be curious and not avoidant!
I teach the following tools:
I know a client is making meaningful progress in anxiety therapy when they report they are doing the skills they have learned in session and see that it works or helps.
Clients can supplement their time in anxiety therapy by listening to podcasts dedicated to mental health issues, exercise, and physical movement and connecting to activities that bring joy.
To prepare for your first anxiety therapy session, you can take a deep breath and be proud of taking the first step to making changes. You can identify what it will look and feel like when it is better so you can have a tangible goal to work toward.
