About
As one who has experienced my own traumas, losses and other "bumps in the road" life throws at us, I can identify with others in distress and try to align with them in finding their personal path to healing and empowerment.
My name is Jeff Miller, and I have been in the mental health field for over 30 years. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Master's degree in Social Work. My experience is varied—beginning in Cuyahoga County investigating allegations of abuse and neglect with extensive Juvenile Court involvement, then expanding to children and teens in foster care, residential treatment, and adoption settings. I have also worked with adults managing chronic or acute mental health conditions and dual diagnoses. I am open to working with most concerns, though depression and anxiety—often rooted in trauma and loss—are what I most typically address.
Building a therapeutic relationship and aligning with clients to find their “path” to healing is at the heart of my work. I help normalize certain feelings, and approach each person without judgment. I am honest and respectful of what a client can manage at any point in the process. Trust is developed and earned over time, and I fully understand that.
I look forward to meeting you and will always start from where you are. Our journey together will hopefully bring new understandings and positive life changes.

Psychologists are mental health professionals that provide psychotherapy services and diagnoses for their clients. They have more research-focused training than most therapists, as they are more medically educated and receive a more general education about therapeutic approaches and theory.
Thriveworks psychologists in Riverside, OH provide standard psychotherapy services, tailoring treatment to each client and their unique concerns. However, they can also provide diagnoses to clients when appropriate, something that therapists and counselors cannot do. Finally, in some states in the U.S., they are allowed to prescribe medication.
Psychological treatment at Thriveworks Riverside is very individualized and specific to each client, which means that the duration of treatment is often varied depending on a client’s condition or disorder, the state of their symptoms, and their specific goals.
In today’s fast-paced world, you may begin feeling more pressure with every passing day. Responsibilities quickly add up and can weigh you down until you feel like you have no energy to even accomplish your usual to-do list. Or you may start to feel symptoms of a mental illness without being able to pinpoint any particular reason.
Either way, it’s easy to feel isolated with these kinds of feelings. However, it’s important to realize that mental health issues like anxiety and depression are more common than you might think. Even celebrities have to fight their own battles with various mental illnesses and emotional disorders.
Take Jon Hamm as an example. He’s played some serious roles throughout his career but he’s best known for his great sense of humor. In interviews, he jokes and flashes a charming smile, and seems like he has it all. But as with most people, Hamm’s external persona doesn’t show the full picture.
Hamm’s relationship with Jennifer Westfeldt, a writer, fell apart not long ago and sent him reeling. In order to cope with his struggles, he sought the help of a mental health counselor that could help him work through this difficult period of life. Today, he’s extremely vocal about his mental health journey and encourages others to see psychologists in order to get their lives back on track just like he did.
If there is a challenge that is holding you back from living the life you want to live, there are clinical psychologists at Thriveworks Counseling in Dayton, OH that are available to help you take the first step in your recovery.
The most important thing to understand is that there is nothing wrong with seeing a psychologist. It’s as normal to sit down with a mental health expert as it is to go to your family doctor for a routine physical.
Maybe you’ve always felt like you struggled with your mental health and have seen how it has impacted you over the years. Or perhaps a recent event has triggered a surge of negativity in your life. Either way, there is no shame in seeking help from a licensed psychologist.
Clinical psychologists can help you learn how to cut your problems down to a size that is more manageable for you, both now and in the future. Our counseling psychologists work with people who seek help for a number of reasons, such as:
Consider your current situation. Is there something that is holding you back? Does your happiness feel like it’s on the bottom of your priority list? The mental health experts at Thriveworks in Dayton, OH can help you take control of your life once again.
Psychologists have the background knowledge, training, and experience necessary to treat mental illnesses and help individuals find happiness and fulfillment in their lives. Just like you wouldn’t ignore an injury or an illness, you don’t have to set aside your mental well-being either.
A psychologist can help you understand why you are struggling with a given problem.
Sometimes it takes an outsider digging deep below the surface to find out what led to the current predicament. Mental health professionals can assist you in successfully coping with life’s biggest challenges — like losing a loved one, a job, or a relationship, for example — so you can learn how to move forward.
Working with a psychologist can help you to improve your problem-solving and communication skills as well. You can find more happiness and fulfillment with your family, your work, and your life if you understand how to express yourself and cope with your struggles.
