About
I know how overwhelming life can feel at times, and my goal is to help you find calm and clarity in the chaos.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with 4 years of experience and specialized training in trauma, autism, anxiety, and anger management. I work with clients who feel overwhelmed, stuck, or misunderstood, helping them build resilience, manage emotions, improve relationships, and create balance. I draw on evidence-based practices and a compassionate approach to guide clients in setting meaningful goals, developing coping skills, and moving toward lasting positive change.
I earned a Master’s in Mental Health Counseling from Baruch College, where I also trained at a neuropsychological clinic. I have received training in cognitive behavioral therapy, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing, cognitive processing therapy, prolonged exposure, and motivational interviewing, allowing me to tailor care to each client.
I understand that feeling anxious, stuck, or misunderstood can be exhausting. I offer a supportive space where you will feel heard and valued. With experience in trauma, anxiety, autism, and anger, I walk alongside clients as they work toward healing, clarity, and hope for a more balanced and fulfilling life.

As one who has experienced trauma and mental health issues, I am mindful when speaking with others concerning their experiences by using compassion and patience.
My name is Kristen, and I have over 8 years of experience in the mental and medical health fields. I graduated from Oakland University with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Walden University with a Master of Science in Marriage, Couple, and Family Counseling. I hold an NCC and am certified in ART and DBT. I work with individuals ages 13-99 across challenges including career exploration, work/life balance, marital conflicts, stress management, grief and loss, trauma and abuse, and depressive, bipolar, and anxiety symptomology. I uncover clients' strengths, values, and dreams to help navigate what brings the success they desire.
I work to make sessions welcoming, warm, and safe—assessing how each client learns (tactile, visual, auditory) and what worked or didn't in past therapy. I'm a "meat and potatoes" therapist: I won't waste clients' time taking the long way around issues. With compassion, I dig to the source, tailoring sessions to each client's diagnoses and learning style.
Are you ready to begin healing and find the person you've always wanted to be? Do you want to explore and accept your authentic self? This can feel scary or unattainable—yet from my own struggles with mental illness, I've realized the strength of an individual and how compassionate therapy can be life-changing. Allow me the honor of walking with you.

My go-to approaches for helping people in couples/marriage counseling are the Gottman Method and communicating together. I use these methods because I see the benefit of couples being able to communicate in the best way for each other.
I teach the following: communication, working together, and being able to use coping skills such as deep breathing and taking breaks for conversations to reset.
I know clients are making meaningful progress in couples counseling when couples find themselves in a tough conversation with each other but are able to use coping skills such as using “I” statements and deep breathing to help them work through it and get to a solution together.
Clients can go on dates and spend time together doing things they both enjoy.
I suggest clients just come in together and be able to discuss the story of what is happening in the marriage.
Couples therapy and marriage counseling, also known as relationship counseling, helps couples work through their specific relationship issues. Some examples of common focuses within couples therapy and marriage counseling include:

At Thriveworks, Couples/marriage therapy is led by licensed professionals — often licensed marriage and family therapists (LMFTs) — who are experts in their field and best-equipped to help couples.
The Gottman Method of couples therapy is a research-supported approach designed to enhance relationships by bolstering the bond between partners, resolving conflicts, and fostering shared meaning in their relationship through comprehensive assessments and tailored interventions that improve communication, trust, and the overall health of the partnership.
If you’re facing persistent relationship problems, communication breakdowns, or unresolved conflicts that are impacting your emotional well-being and happiness, Couples/marriage therapy may be beneficial for you.
While marriage and couple’s counseling is typically recommended for couples who are experiencing persistent or severe relationship issues, any relationship can benefit from attending these sessions.
Marriage and couples counseling at Thriveworks is conducted both in person and online by video. We encourage you to choose the option that works best for you and your partner.
On average, couples attend marriage and couples counseling for 12 weeks. However, couples & marriage counseling may last longer or shorter, dependent on the couples’ needs, the challenges they’d like to work through, and the pace of their progress.
At Thriveworks, we accept most major insurance plans, allowing many clients to pay as little as $0–$50 per session with their co-pay. The author Mark Twain once stated, “To get the full value of joy, you must have someone to divide it with.” For many people, an intimate partner is the person they look to when they want to share vivid life experiences. The experiences don’t have to be joyful. Sometimes they’re agonizing, or confusing, or scary. But the presence of a spouse or loved one can ease the burden of pain, or heighten the feelings of happiness. Because love is about sharing.
But what happens when an intimate relationship starts to falter? Then your partner can become a source of pain rather than support. That’s when many couples turn to marriage counseling. Couples therapy and marriage counseling at Thriveworks in Novi, MI is a healthy way to strengthen your intimate bonds and discover more about yourself, your loved one, and how you relate to each other. The licensed marriage and family therapists (LMFTs) at Thriveworks have the compassion and insight to facilitate meaningful discussions about tough topics. The expert counselors at Thriveworks can also help couples maintain their relationship even if they’re not actively experiencing problems. Reach out to Thriveworks Novi to schedule your first appointment today.

In this secure space, relationship therapy can examine the following topics:
In couples counseling, a therapist hopes that each partner will learn what they set out to learn when they begin therapy. For example, a partner may start therapy with the goal of reducing arguments at home. Through relationship counseling that person might learn her partner’s triggers and be able to adapt her language to communicate more effectively. In turn, her partner might become more aware of why certain words trigger distress, and find coping strategies.
People come to marriage therapy or premarital counseling at Thriveworks in Novi, MI with a wide variety of goals in mind, including the following:
