About
As a licensed therapist, I know the power of identifying our “inner critic." I found freedom in understanding and confronting the beliefs and behaviors that shaped my day-to-day life and I am committed to helping my clients feel inspired to do the same.
Jennifer O'Brien is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and certified life coach with over 5 years of clinical experience working with individuals, couples, and families of all ages. Her clinical work includes working in the foster care and adoption community, where she provided clinical support to staff, foster families, and youth in care. Her work focuses on identifying ineffective behaviors, habits, beliefs, or other internal or external factors that hold people back from enjoying the life they want. She believes in creating a safe place where clients are free to explore and understand who they are and equip them to find the answers or tools they need to attain their identified goals. She is passionate about helping clients learn how to build healthy relationships and inner confidence to live their lives to their fullest potential.
Jennifer completed her Master of Social Work (MSW) at Widener University after finishing her Bachelor’s in Psychology from Simpson University in Redding, California. Throughout her clinical work, and her experience working in foster care, she has worked with individuals, families, and youth of all ages who have struggled with a multitude of mental health challenges, including stressors related to life transitions, grief, loss, depression, anxiety, deeply internalized self-judgments, sense of inadequacy, insecurity or feelings of “never good enough,” and other various mental health concerns. Jennifer utilizes various treatment approaches to address her client’s needs, focused primarily on utilizing attachment-based theories/attachment-based therapy, emotion-focused therapy (EFT), and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). She also utilizes motivational interviewing, solution-focused therapy, and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) when in the best interest of her clients.
Day-to-day life can be isolating and overwhelming, all while still trying to navigate the unique challenges of today’s world. Jennifer is committed and confident she can help you build healthier relationships and confidence to face those challenges, validating who you are now and equipping you to attain the future you desire. If you are ready to take the first step, reach out to schedule an appointment with her today.

My go-to approach for treating anxiety is dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), mindfulness, and distress tolerance practices, as well as working with the client to address any unresolved conflicts impacting the client’s wellbeing. I prefer to take this holistic approach because it supports the client’s unique needs and ongoing success.
I teach the following tools in anxiety therapy:
Clients can supplement their time in anxiety therapy with journaling and practicing coping, distress tolerance, and relaxation skills.
To prepare for your first anxiety therapy session, you can start by jotting down any thoughts or feelings you've been experiencing lately and note any specific goals or outcomes you hope to achieve through therapy. Therapy is a collaborative process, so being prepared to engage and communicate openly can be beneficial.
Anxiety therapy helps people better understand and manage their anxiety. Anxiety therapists at Thriveworks in Missouri City, TX can develop a treatment plan that will help you better manage your day-to-day anxiety or your anxiety disorder.
Anxiety therapy involves talking to a therapist about symptoms, potential causes, and more. Thriveworks Missouri City therapists will then work with you to determine where your anxiety might stem from and teach you effective coping mechanisms.
One of the best ways to deal with anxiety is to learn about your own anxiety: your symptoms, what triggers it, and what coping mechanisms have been effective in the past. When you learn what your anxiety is tied to, it can help you be mindful of what’s really happening as well as prevent and mitigate symptoms by processing and working through the issue in therapy. Other strategies that have been shown to help manage anxiety are meditation, challenging anxious thoughts, exercising, and journaling.
Common symptoms of anxiety include:
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) can be incredibly effective in treating anxiety and anxiety disorders. Other effective techniques include exposure therapy, Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and EMDR therapy.
Anxiety therapy is conducted both in person and online, depending on the individual’s preferences and their therapist’s availability. We suggest choosing the option that best suits your needs.
On average, people can tend to attend 15 to 20 session of anxiety therapy (five or more months). However, this number is heavily dependent on the type of anxiety that’s being treated and its severity, with many choosing to attend anxiety therapy for a longer period of time to ensure its effectiveness long-term.
Yes, it is worth going to therapy for anxiety. If you are struggling with regular anxious thoughts and feelings that are affecting your day-to-day life or you suspect that you have an anxiety disorder, you should seek expert anxiety help.
