About
I believe that healing begins when people feel safe enough to explore their experiences with curiosity, compassion, and hope for what comes next.
Hi, I'm Bernave Vega, a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), National Certified Counselor (NCC), and doctoral candidate in Counselor Education and Supervision. I work with children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families navigating trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, identity exploration, and life transitions. I have specialized training in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and enjoy helping children and teens heal from difficult experiences while also supporting adults and couples in building healthier, more connected relationships.
My approach is collaborative, compassionate, and tailored to each client's needs. I integrate evidence-based approaches including TF-CBT, CBT, ACT, DBT, attachment-based interventions, and emotion-focused work to help clients process difficult experiences, strengthen coping skills, improve relationships, and build lasting resilience.
Reaching out for support takes courage, and you don't have to navigate life's challenges alone. Whether you're seeking help for yourself, your child, or your relationship, I look forward to creating a safe, supportive space where healing, growth, and meaningful change can begin.

I believe the key to unlocking progress for teenage clients is creating a space of radical transparency and trust. My go-to approach strips away the mystery of therapy, replacing it with refreshing honesty, humor, and zero judgment. In my practice, I provide a brave space where they can open up, be heard, and start healing on their own terms. No masks, no walking on eggshells. Through compassionate listening and a commitment to authenticity, I help guide teens toward self-empowerment. The journey begins when they realize this is their safe zone to explore life's challenges without fear.
I teach the following tools in teen counseling:
I know a client is making meaningful progress when they start expressing their thoughts and feelings and become more motivated to utilize the tools provided in therapy. When they express more self-awareness and are excited about their goals, I know they are doing the work.
Clients can supplement their time in teen counseling with hobbies, social activities, being physically active, and/or stimulating their minds by learning new things.
To prepare for their first teen counseling session, a teen can have questions ready to ask their therapist, come with an open mind, and come with the understanding that the therapist is only there to help.
Teen counseling helps young individuals better understand and manage the challenges that affect their mental health. Common challenges amongst teens include anxiety, depression, ADHD, and problematic relationships with food.
Teen counseling works by using multiple techniques, tailored to fit the teen’s unique needs — based on their age group, their challenges, and the severity of their challenges. It might involve cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, art therapy, and others for varying ages. In any case, Thriveworks teen therapists in Missouri City have the expertise and experience to help young individuals at their level.
Signs that teens might need Teen counseling can be very subjective, as they are experiencing many changes and can have intense reactions to them. As parents, you know your child best and are best equipped to judge whether certain reactions are standard behaviors for your teen or whether they might be hinting at a larger problem. Even so, there are a few common signs and events that often point to a need for therapy, such as experiencing divorce or loss, grief, consistent low moods, teens distancing themselves and becoming isolated, losing interest in hobbies, excessive anger or irritability, substance use issues, and suicidal ideation, among others.
Teen counseling providers at Thriveworks in Missouri City, TX offer both in person and online therapy by video. We encourage you to choose the option that works best for you.
The length of teen counseling depends on your teen’s needs as well as the goals that you and their therapist might have for them. Generally, teen counseling sessions will last for several months.
