Kara Walker is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) who has over 10 years of experience working with adolescents and adults across the lifespan with issues related to trauma, depression, undeveloped coping skills, grief, difficult life transitions, military and veteran's issues, low self-esteem, chronic stress, and anxiety. She enjoys working with clients who are committed to their journey of self-discovery and healing. Kara specializes in empowering women who are struggling to discover their self-worth and reach their goals.
Kara earned her Master's degree in Social Work from the University of Washington and believes that each individual seeking therapy deserves to find a therapist they connect with and trust. Hokunani Womack is a Resident in Counseling with over 2 years of experience working with adults dealing with trauma, depression, anxiety, ADHD, and autism spectrum disorder. She comes from a diverse background and is LGBTQIA+-affirming, passionate about women's issues, and culturally sensitive. Hokunani has worked in community mental health with people experiencing homelessness and severe mental illness, as well as in inpatient and outpatient hospital settings treating a wide range of diagnoses. She has developed an eclectic trauma-informed approach to counseling and tailors care to the individual needs of her clients.
Hokunani graduated with a Master of Science in Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling from Virginia Commonwealth University. Some approaches she uses include dialectical behavioral therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, narrative therapy, motivational interviewing, internal family systems, and attachment theory.

My go-to approach for helping people in PTSD/trauma therapy is working to reduce the intensity of responses to trauma triggers. I find benefit in helping clients stabilize symptoms while they work to process their trauma in the structured setting of counseling.

I know a client is making meaningful progress in PTSD/trauma therapy when they're able to manage their symptoms to reduce functional impairment and calmly discuss the details and factors of their traumatic experience in their own time.
Clients can supplement their time in PTSD/trauma therapy by building up a strong support network. Feeling supported, loved, and safe is one the most significant protective factors against worsening trauma symptoms, and not something I can provide as a counselor.
To prepare for your first PTSD/trauma therapy session, ask yourself how comfortable you feel discussing your trauma so we can set realistic goals for your treatment without causing additional distress by exploring trauma before you're ready to.
