Social anxiety counseling involves talking to a therapist about your social anxiety symptoms, potential causes, and more. Your therapist will then work with you to determine where your social anxiety might stem from and teach you effective coping mechanisms.

Social anxiety counseling can last for a few weeks, months, or longer, depending on the severity of one’s social anxiety as well as their needs and preferences.
“Why would they ask me!? Don’t they know I’m not the type?”
“You know, Netflix would be much more pleasing than sitting in this corner by myself.”
“Oh no, they’re looking at me. Did they ask me something? Ugh, say something! No, not that!”
“Okay, maybe they didn’t ask me something. I just need to chill out.”
Individuals with social anxiety believe all of their anxious questions are merely inside their head — and they are — but what they cannot conceive is how those thoughts could outwardly affect others. Nor are they able to convince themselves to get up and push out of their comfort zone and experience life in a way that is uninhibited by what others think.
If you are plagued by social anxiety and worrying thoughts, reach out to Thriveworks Knoxville for help. We offer evening and weekend sessions, and accept most major insurances. Our counselors are here to help.
