My typical approach for helping clients with grief & loss is fundamentally the same across all modalities-meeting them at their level and their readiness for change. I find this works best because they are the experts on themselves. They need to be the one driving or the actions won't be meaningful. Dealing with grief and loss is a delicate matter that takes time, but unfortunately society does not give us enough time to process our grief

Clients can supplement their therapy by practicing some good self care & the coping tools discussed, or just by merely considering how the concepts from sessions can be applied. In grief therapy, consistent practice of tools is the foundation of healing oneself from the loss.
To prepare for their first session, clients can consider what their goals for therapy might be, and to keep an open mind for their new journey. For many, grief and loss counseling lasts for about 6 months. For others, it may last shorter or longer, depending on the severity of their loss and their grief.
