Starting Panic attack disorder therapy in Grand Rapids Charter Township

What is panic attack disorder therapy?

Panic attack disorder therapy is a specialized therapeutic approach designed to help individuals suffering from recurrent and debilitating panic attacks. During therapy sessions, individuals work closely with trained Thriveworks Grand Rapids Charter Township therapists to identify and understand the triggers and thought patterns that contribute to their panic attacks. Through panic attack disorder therapy, individuals learn to manage their anxiety, develop coping strategies, and regain control over their lives, ultimately leading to a reduction in the severity of panic attacks.

How does panic attack disorder therapy work?

Panic attack disorder therapy often utilizes cognitive-behavioral techniques like exposure therapy and relaxation exercises to help individuals manage and mitigate panic attacks. These methods involve desensitizing triggers, reducing physical and emotional symptoms, and challenging irrational thought patterns to empower individuals to recognize, control, and reduce the frequency and intensity of panic attacks.

Is panic attack disorder therapy conducted in person or online?

Panic attack disorder therapy at Thriveworks is conducted both in person and through Online therapy. We encourage you to choose the option that works best for you.

How long does panic attack disorder therapy last?

Panic attack disorder therapy may last for a variable amount of time, depending on the individual’s unique needs.

Panic Attack Disorder Therapy – Counselors in Grands Rapids, Forest Hills

Do you experience panic attacks? If so, consider reaching out to Thriveworks Grand Rapids to schedule a panic attack disorder therapy appointment. Our counselors are compassionate and here to help.

What Do Panic Attacks Look Like?

Panic attacks, commonly short lasting (no longer than 10 to 15 minutes, on average) usually proceed along the following lines:

1) A person believes that something terrible is going to happen to him/her
2) The autonomic nervous system activates, and the person begins to experience various physiological symptoms:

  • heart palpitations
  • hyperventilation
  • chest pains
  • dizziness
  • sweating
  • abdominal sensations

3) The person experiences various psychological symptoms:

  • intense fear
  • confusion
  • emotional disturbance

This re-triggers the initial phase (the person concludes once again that he/she is in danger) and a vicious cycle is created.

Signs of Panic Disorder

According to the DSM-5, the diagnosis of a panic disorder is made if someone experiences recurrent panic attacks, accompanied by persistent worrying about their consequences, and general concerns regarding their mental wellbeing or fears of further attacks and/or behavioral changes, as a result.

Panic attacks are often accompanied by psychomotor agitation or avoidance behavior (avoidance of specific situations or activities where a panic attack could occur) or even isolation from the other people. This can lead to further difficulties in interpersonal relations or job-related problems.

Sufferers are usually preoccupied with their attacks, which causes intense worry and anxiety, which can lead to sleeping or eating disorders.

Schedule Panic Disorder Counseling at Thriveworks Grand Rapids

If you have experienced some of the symptoms listed above, you should consider finding professional help in counseling for panic attacks or panic disorder therapy. Qualified counselors and therapists at Thriveworks Grand Rapids can help you to understand what panic attacks and panic disorder are, and how, why, and when they occur. This can help you to perceive threatening situations from a different perspective. They can also teach you how to relax and ease the symptoms and, finally, in the long run, to reduce the number of panic attacks.

Life changing support and compassionate guidance. I have been seeing Jordan Arntz for just a couple months now and I can say it has been a truly transformative experience. From the first session Jordan made me feel comfortable, heard, and supported. They've created a safe and non-judgmental space. I have seen many therapists in my lifetime and this is a first that has allowed for such depth in self reflection, self compassion and self care. I have already recommended Thriveworks and Jordan to friends.
