Jen started out working with adjudicated youth in a day program, and then spent ten years working with both youth and adults in an outpatient mental health agency. During those ten years, Jen worked with people of many different ages, races, social groups, and gender identities. This experience was invaluable as she learned that everyone is different, has different needs, and has more potential than they may realize.
In addition to years of volunteering in her community since she was a teenager, Jen has a Bachelor of Psychology and a Master of Marriage and Family Counseling, both from Wright State University. Jen interned, worked, taught, and later managed at an agency that provided therapy, day programs, group therapy, case management, and substance use treatment for people of all ages.
Jen brings her years of experience and her education to the session to partner with her clients. While she is the professional in the session, she sees her client as the expert in their own life. Jen and her client work together to explore and identify the problem, what they want to do about it, and how to work toward that outcome. Some people come to therapy struggling with shame or embarrassment, and need to connect with their therapist before they can open up about the really hard stuff. Jen encourages her clients to set the pace, and empowers them to speak up if they need something different. Schedule your intake appointment to start your partnership.
You deserve dedicated time with a mental health professional — it can be life-changing.

My go-to approach for helping people in individual therapy is making sure therapy goals are personalized. I find the best benefit in building rapport because the therapeutic relationship is one of the most important aspects for effective therapy intervention.
I teach the following tools in individual therapy:
I know a client is making meaningful progress in individual therapy when they report less severe and less frequent symptoms or challenges from their symptoms over time. For example, when a client continues to report feeling happy or no longer feeling anxious for a month. Other times I might use self-report questionnaires to track progress.
Clients can supplement their time in individual therapy in a variety of ways specific to their needs and therapy goals, which may include writing down significant events/thoughts/emotions, seeking social and emotional support with friends or family, practicing any tools discussed in individual therapy, and engaging in pleasurable activities regularly.
To prepare for your first individual session, you can think through what you would like to improve or work on as part of your goals in therapy, such as “improve my mood and not feel depressed”, “feel less anxious”, or “respond better to stress”. You can also bring with you any questions or concerns you might have and want to address.
Individual therapy, also known as Individual therapy, allows people to engage in private sessions with a skilled therapist, counselor, or psychologist. The core objective of individual therapy is to establish a secure and confidential setting where you can openly discuss whatever emotional, psychological, or behavioral challenges you face. Through these one-on-one sessions, the client and therapist work together to delve into, comprehend, and ultimately find solutions for the issues at hand in their life.
Individual therapy unfolds in a structured process, commencing with an initial assessment in which the therapist gathers essential information about your history, concerns, and objectives. Together, you and your therapist collaboratively establish specific, attainable goals for your sessions, which can encompass symptom alleviation, personal development, or finding solutions to particular challenges.
Yes, individual therapy, also known as Individual therapy, at Thriveworks can help you to improve your mental health and overall quality of life.
Individual therapy at Thriveworks is conducted both in person and via Online therapy. We encourage you to choose the option that works best for you.
The duration of your individual therapy sessions will vary. The decision on the number and frequency of sessions is typically collaboratively determined by the client and therapist.
At Thriveworks, we accept most major insurance plans, allowing many clients to pay as little as $0–$50 per session with their co-pay.
