What is your go-to approach for anxiety therapy?

My go-to approach for treating anxiety is cognitive behavioral therapy. I start there because it's necessary to know how thoughts can lead to how one feels.

What tools do you teach in anxiety therapy?

In anxiety therapy, I encourage clients to journal their feelings daily and work backward to see what thoughts start the feelings. This makes it easier for them to tell me how their week went when we meet in session. Journaling is the easiest thing for clients to do, either writing it out on paper or just jotting notes down on their phone.

How do you know when a client is making meaningful progress in anxiety therapy?

I usually know that a client is making meaningful progress in anxiety therapy when the episodes of anxiety during a week decrease significantly from where they were when I first met them and if that decrease is maintained over a period of weeks.

What can clients do in their personal time to supplement anxiety therapy?

Clients can supplement their time and anxiety therapy by practicing breathing techniques, journaling, and healthy self-care activities that they know work for them.

What should someone do to prepare for starting anxiety therapy?

To prepare for your first anxiety therapy session, you can just come to the session prepared to talk. I will gently guide you and ask questions, which will encourage you to open up and share your thoughts about what is going on in your head in an unobtrusive and natural way.
