Brittney Juanita Pearson is a Licensed Psychologist who has worked with clients varying in ages from 7 to 65 years old. She has found success working with clients who struggle with daily living due to anxiety, mood disturbances, psychosis, or behavioral issues. Brittney is committed to creating a therapeutic environment that is both welcoming and comfortable for the client.
Brittney completed her Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Health Psychology at Virginia State University in 2017. In the same year she completed her clinical internship at an APA-accredited community mental health center in Leavenworth, Kansas. In 2021 Brittney became licensed to practice clinical psychology in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Brittney is committed to providing effective, evidence-based care and mental health education. Her approach to therapy is best summarized as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)-focused, client-centered, and strength-based. Brittney provides a collaborative and supportive space where she challenges each client to discover their personal strengths. These strengths set the foundation for further skill building based on the client’s needs. Each therapy session encourages client participation in both the initial treatment planning and throughout the course of ongoing sessions. Establishing genuine rapport with clients while maintaining appropriate boundaries is essential for a comfortable, therapeutic environment.
It can be a daunting task to open yourself up to someone you’ve just met. The right therapist can help make this process as comfortable as possible. Brittney’s approach to therapy is adapted to fit the needs of the client. Sessions may involve practicing assertive language, learning healthy coping skills, processing difficult life events, challenging unhealthy thoughts, or exploring triggers for anxiety. The foundation of each approach is built on the client’s personal strengths. Brittney believes that every client possesses at least three strengths that can be used as assets within therapy. Through a collaborative effort these strengths can be used to help build a more fulfilling and healthy quality of life.

My go-to approach for helping people in individual therapy is CBT/DBT/narrative therapy. I find the best benefit in these techniques because they assist the client with understanding their thought patterns, focusing on positives, and separating themselves from their problem which empowers them to achieve their life goals.
My focus in individual therapy is uncovering that which restores empowerment. I find this approach to be beneficial because it establishes a sense of hope and provides opportunities for personal accomplishments.
I teach the following tools in individual therapy:
The tools I teach in therapy (online sessions included) are DBT and CBT tools that encourage self-regulation, emotional support, mindfulness, coping strategies, reflective skills, relaxation techniques, and exploration of different thought perspectives to achieve goals. I also offer psychoeducation to provide an understanding of the diagnosis. I also utilize motivational interviewing to build upon strengths and improve self-confidence, independence, and emotional wellness. I also utilize bibliotherapy as needed, to provide opportunities for support and motivation from literature and experts in the areas of need.
I know a client is making meaningful progress in individual therapy when they begin accomplishing their goals, engaging more in society, and appearing genuinely at peace with life.
I know a client is making progress when they are able to meet goals established in the treatment plan, recognize their achievements, and experience confidence and a sense of independence as they utilize the tools shared in sessions.
Clients can supplement their time in individual therapy by engaging in therapeutic assigned tasks and/or engaging in self-care for at least 10-15 minutes daily.
I emphasize holistic self-care as a supplement that is necessary to enhance individual therapy sessions. This provides opportunities for well-rounded wellness.
To prepare for your first individual therapy session, you can reflect on goals that you would like to achieve through therapy.
To prepare for individual therapy, I encourage clients to begin to reflect on presenting issues with nonjudgment, attempt to gain clarity with goals, and remain open to the possibilities of transformation and healing.
Individual therapy, also known as Individual therapy, allows people to engage in private sessions with a skilled therapist, counselor, or psychologist. The core objective of individual therapy is to establish a secure and confidential setting where you can openly discuss whatever emotional, psychological, or behavioral challenges you face. Through these one-on-one sessions, the client and therapist work together to delve into, comprehend, and ultimately find solutions for the issues at hand in their life.
Individual therapy unfolds in a structured process, commencing with an initial assessment in which the therapist gathers essential information about your history, concerns, and objectives. Together, you and your therapist collaboratively establish specific, attainable goals for your sessions, which can encompass symptom alleviation, personal development, or finding solutions to particular challenges.
Yes, individual therapy, also known as Individual therapy, at Thriveworks can help you to improve your mental health and overall quality of life.
Individual therapy at Thriveworks is conducted both in person and via Online therapy. We encourage you to choose the option that works best for you.
The duration of your individual therapy sessions will vary. The decision on the number and frequency of sessions is typically collaboratively determined by the client and therapist.
