What is your go-to approach for individual therapy?

People come to therapy for a variety of reasons, and my go-to approach for helping people in individual therapy is identifying the root cause of whatever their reason is for coming to therapy. While this approach can provide symptom relief, it goes deeper than just giving clients a way to cope with their symptoms. I find this type of deep healing work gives my clients the meaningful and lasting change they truly seek.

What tools do you teach in individual therapy?

The most significant tool I hope to help my clients learn is to take a compassionate, accepting, curious, and loving stance toward themselves. Research shows that it is that stance that ultimately allows for a shift in our thoughts, behaviors, and symptoms.

How do you know when a client is making meaningful progress in individual therapy?

I know a client is making meaningful progress in individual therapy when they are moving closer to what they want for themselves. Said another way, I know they are making progress when they tell me that they are. While I bring expertise to the table, my clients are the experts on themselves and their experience. They decide what meaningful progress means, and I've found that each of my clients defines it a little differently. Understanding what the client wants for themselves and what progress means to them is the cornerstone of my approach to therapy.

What can clients do in their personal time to supplement individual therapy?

Clients can supplement their time in individual therapy by practicing the skills they are learning in sessions and reflecting on the topics and concepts discussed. Journaling is a great mechanism for reflection. Some folks find it helpful to receive recommendations for books, podcasts, and other resources. If that's of interest to my client, I'm happy to recommend resources.

What should someone do to prepare for starting individual therapy?

To prepare for your first individual therapy session, you can think about what you want to get from therapy. Consider these questions: “If therapy went really well, what would I have? What would be different?” You don't have to have an exact answer, and your answer can change throughout our work together. It's also helpful to hear upfront what you're hoping therapy can help you with. This information helps me understand our goals and helps me tailor my approach to your specific needs.

Starting Individual therapy

What is individual therapy?

Individual therapy, also known as Individual therapy, allows people to engage in private sessions with a skilled therapist, counselor, or psychologist. The core objective of individual therapy is to establish a secure and confidential setting where you can openly discuss whatever emotional, psychological, or behavioral challenges you face. Through these one-on-one sessions, the client and therapist work together to delve into, comprehend, and ultimately find solutions for the issues at hand in their life.

How does individual therapy work?

Individual therapy unfolds in a structured process, commencing with an initial assessment in which the therapist gathers essential information about your history, concerns, and objectives. Together, you and your therapist collaboratively establish specific, attainable goals for your sessions, which can encompass symptom alleviation, personal development, or finding solutions to particular challenges.

Can individual therapy help me?

Yes, individual therapy, also known as Individual therapy, at Thriveworks can help you to improve your mental health and overall quality of life.

Is individual therapy conducted in person or online?

Individual therapy at Thriveworks is conducted both in person and via Online therapy. We encourage you to choose the option that works best for you.

How long does individual therapy last?

The duration of your individual therapy sessions will vary. The decision on the number and frequency of sessions is typically collaboratively determined by the client and therapist.

How much does individual therapy cost?

At Thriveworks, we accept most major insurance plans, allowing many clients to pay as little as $0–$50 per session with their co-pay. What I appreciate the most is my counselor Catherine Dilger, she has made me have such a good experience going through my mental health journey. In terms of thriveworks itself, I have appreciated so much how easy it was to book my first session and how easy it has been to use the interface online and continue having sessions.

Ashley Collins is incredible. I recommend her to everyone. Her knowledge of how the human brain works regarding anxiety is brilliant. I've been seeing her monthly for almost 3 years and want to continue for the rest of my life. She's taught me how to recognize my anxiety and work inside it to manage, cope, and lesson the occurrence. I'm genuinely so happy and grateful to have found her.

I really enjoy my therapist. She's really informative and she listens to everything I need to talk about. I think I need to be open more to my own self or pass problems, but anything that I've asked to talk about. She's always tried to find ways to find a solution or, find a way to help me let go of the things that trouble me. By the way, her name is Danyel.
