About
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) and an Organizational Psychologist with 24 years of experience in the field. I completed my master’s degree in Counseling at Valparaiso University and my doctorate in Organizational Psychology (PhD) at Walden University. In addition to my counseling practice, I am also an adjunct professor in a health studies department, where I teach courses in holistic medicine, human sexuality, stress management, and statistics. While I offer counseling and talk therapy services, I do not currently offer psychological testing.
I began my counseling career in 1995 with the Aliveness Project in Gary, Indiana, where I worked with the LGBTQ+ community, providing outreach and prevention services. I also helped Spanish-speaking communities in Chicago before deciding to return to graduate school after questioning my abilities at the time.
I agree with Freud’s belief that everyone should be able to love and work. We should love our work and understand love. When a person experiences an imbalance in either of these areas, stress can arise. Over time, prolonged stress can lead to symptoms of anxiety and depression. My goal is to help individuals find balance in these areas to foster a good life.

As someone who has lived and trained across cultures I understand how complex our stories can be. I offer a space to explore deeper patterns that shape our struggles, growth, and relationships.
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with 15 years of experience, and I am also an advanced doctoral candidate in psychoanalysis. Over the years, I have worked with adults facing challenges such as anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, relationship struggles, and personality difficulties. Many of my clients come to me feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or weighed down by old patterns. I provide a safe and supportive space where you can reduce anxiety, sadness, or self-doubt, strengthen relationships, set healthy boundaries, and begin meaningful healing.
I hold a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the Boston Graduate School of Psychoanalysis and bring advanced doctoral training in psychoanalysis. My approach is depth-oriented and psychodynamic, with a focus on uncovering patterns, exploring meaning, and creating lasting change through insight, support, and compassionate care.
I invite you to take the courageous step toward therapy, whether you are seeking relief from pain, clarity in confusion, or stronger connections with yourself and others. My go-to approach for couples/marriage counseling is reflective listening. I prefer reflective listening because it helps couples communicate more efficiently, which is key to having a healthy relationship.
I teach clients how to actively listen and engage in healthy conversations around difficult topics.
I know a client has made meaningful progress through observing the couple and listening to their input in therapy.
Clients can do the homework that is assigned by the clinician in order to supplement couples/marriage counseling.
In order to prepare for couples/marriage counseling the couple should try to reflect on what they would like to get out of therapy.
Couples therapy and marriage counseling, also known as relationship counseling, helps couples work through their specific relationship issues. Some examples of common focuses within couples therapy and marriage counseling include:

At Thriveworks, Couples/marriage therapy is led by licensed professionals — often licensed marriage and family therapists (LMFTs) — who are experts in their field and best-equipped to help couples.
The Gottman Method of couples therapy is a research-supported approach designed to enhance relationships by bolstering the bond between partners, resolving conflicts, and fostering shared meaning in their relationship through comprehensive assessments and tailored interventions that improve communication, trust, and the overall health of the partnership.
If you’re facing persistent relationship problems, communication breakdowns, or unresolved conflicts that are impacting your emotional well-being and happiness, Couples/marriage therapy may be beneficial for you.
While marriage and couple’s counseling is typically recommended for couples who are experiencing persistent or severe relationship issues, any relationship can benefit from attending these sessions.
Marriage and couples counseling at Thriveworks is conducted both in person and online by video. We encourage you to choose the option that works best for you and your partner.
On average, couples attend marriage and couples counseling for 12 weeks. However, couples & marriage counseling may last longer or shorter, dependent on the couples’ needs, the challenges they’d like to work through, and the pace of their progress.
