Starting Marriage counseling

What is marriage counseling?

Marriage counseling, also known as couples therapy and relationship counseling, helps couples work through their specific relationship issues. Thriveworks marriage counseling in Bastrop, TX is led by licensed professionals — often licensed marriage and family therapists (LMFTs) — who are experts in their field and best-equipped to help couples. Some examples of common focuses within Marriage counseling include:

  • Jealousy
  • Trust issues
  • Infidelity
  • Opposing values
  • Different visions for the future
  • Disagreements in parenting
  • Lack of trust
  • Financial distress
  • Sex issues

How does marriage counseling work?

Marriage counseling works by helping couples identify and better navigate their unique challenges. Following an initial assessment of the couple in terms of strengths and needs, the therapist would then discuss their therapeutic goals and any possible approaches or ways of working together as therapist and couple.
Couples attend sessions together, whether they meet in person or by video. In addition to regular marriage counseling sessions, each partner may also be asked to attend a few individual sessions to supplement their progress. This will allow their counselor to get to know each individual better, assess each of their personal needs, and develop the very best treatment plan moving forward.

Is marriage counseling conducted in person or online?

Marriage counseling at Thriveworks is conducted both in person and online by video. We encourage you to choose the option that works best for you and your partner.

How long does marriage counseling last?

On average, couples attend marriage counseling for 12 weeks. However, marriage counseling may last longer or shorter, dependent on the couples’ needs, the challenges they’d like to work through, and the pace of their progress. Marriage counselors and therapists at Thriveworks in Bastrop, TX work with their clients to create goals, decide on ideal timelines, and establish treatment plans.

How to Have a Healthy Marriage – Counselors and Therapists in Bastrop

Before you get married, you’re both excited about the idea of til-death-do-us-part. They call it the “honeymoon phase,” where you’re completely crazy about each other and spend as much time one-on-one as you possibly can. It’s wonderful.

At some point, you start to spend more and more time apart. You get on each others’ nerves. You nitpick. You argue. You shout and slam doors. You spend a night (or several) on the couch. You resent one another. The person you once loved more than any other human being in the world has become the person you least want to be around.

If you can relate to this, reach out to Thriveworks Bastrop for help. We have compassionate marriage counselors who are here to support you and help you get your marriage back on track.

When to Seek Marriage Counseling?

Unhappiness in a marriage can come from many places. Some common sources of distress in a marriage that might cause you to seek marriage help include:

  • Financial hardship
  • Health concerns
  • Infidelity
  • Infertility
  • Intimacy and commitment issues
  • Family drama
  • Loss of income
  • Moving to a new city
  • Having your first child
  • Psychological concerns
  • Substance abuse

Divorce is becoming all to common place. For some people it’s the way out of a legitimately awful situation, and in others it’s an expensive way of not dealing with your problems and simply carrying them with you to your next relationship.

I have been working with Dr. Covey for almost 6 months now and she has been excellent. I feel like I am heard and understood even when I have a hard time expressing things myself and putting thoughts into words. Having someone who can actually listen and provide the resources to assist myself with past trauma and current challenges has been a life changer.

This is prior to being seen so this is strictly based on first impressions upon entering the building. The waiting area is nice but undefined as to where one should go nor any indications as to what is needed to be done. No one was there to greet us nor was there any desk or window to suggest someone would. We looked for the therapist's office but no doors had any identification to point us in the right direction. At this point we're at the mercy of the clock alerting the therapist to seek us out in the waiting area in order to be seen. Not the best first impression. I will update this review if and when we are seen.

Easy and convenient to book according to my schedule. I feel like I'm learning and making progress with Mrs. Antoine. She is extremely kind and empathetic. I would recommend a friend to Thriveworks because of my experience with her.
