About
As a woman, mother, and counselor living in today's modern society, I understand the difficulties of navigating the ever-changing and challenging world in which we live.
Melissa Stevens is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with over 11 years of experience in the mental health field. She is dedicated and passionate when it comes to helping children, teens, adults, and families work through issues related to self-harm, suicidal tendencies and thoughts, depression, anxiety, grief/loss, trauma, relationship issues, and major life transitions.
Melissa completed her master’s degree in clinical Mental Health Counseling at the University of Texas at San Antonio. She has spent most of her career working with adults as they transition through different stages of life, helping to navigate life’s many challenging situations, as well as serving young people aged 6-19 . She is truly passionate about what she does and takes pride in her ability to connect with people on a deeper level. Melissa uses an integrative approach to working with her clients that focuses on using what best suits each client. The modalities she often uses consist of person-centered (PCT, Rogerian) methods, Cognitive Behavioral (CBT), solutions-focused (SFT) therapy, Acceptance and Commitment therapy (ACT), art and music therapy, relational, faith-based, and family systems therapy (FST).
We could all use someone to help us talk through and navigate these difficult and challenging situations we are often faced with. If you, your child, or your family are ready to move towards a stronger sense of self-actualization and self-determination in a comfortable, safe, and judgment-free zone, schedule your appointment with Melissa today.

I know how heavy life can feel, and through my personal experiences with loss and anxiety and my professional work supporting others, I’ve learned that healing, growth, and empowerment are possible.
I love helping all people navigate anxiety and the ups and downs of everyday life—because let's be honest, it can get a little chaotic. I aim to create a space that feels supportive, nonjudgmental, and real, where you can be yourself. Along the way, I'll help you gain insight, build tools, and maybe even share a few laughs as you grow into the version of yourself you're working toward.
My approach is warm, person-centered, and empathetic. I use trauma-focused care, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, and solution-focused techniques to help clients understand themselves and build healthier ways of coping. I especially enjoy supporting individuals navigating anxiety, life transitions, low self-esteem, and trauma.
No matter where you are in your journey, you don't have to navigate life's challenges alone. Healing, growth, and change are possible. Taking the first step toward therapy can feel overwhelming, but it can also be the beginning of meaningful transformation. When you're ready, I would be honored to support you as you move toward healing and personal growth.

I prefer a client-centered approach to therapy because I find that if clients feel that they have control over the therapy then they are more vested in the process.
I teach cognitive flexibility, which involves many strategies from acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT).
I know that a client is making meaningful progress because their affect during the session has changed.
Clients are encouraged to use recommended workbooks, journaling topics, and mindfulness strategies outside of their sessions.
To prepare for the first session, a client can think about what they would like to change or see differently in their life.
Individual therapy, also known as Individual therapy, allows people to engage in private sessions with a skilled therapist, counselor, or psychologist. The core objective of individual therapy is to establish a secure and confidential setting where you can openly discuss whatever emotional, psychological, or behavioral challenges you face. Through these one-on-one sessions, the client and therapist work together to delve into, comprehend, and ultimately find solutions for the issues at hand in their life.
Individual therapy unfolds in a structured process, commencing with an initial assessment in which the therapist gathers essential information about your history, concerns, and objectives. Together, you and your therapist collaboratively establish specific, attainable goals for your sessions, which can encompass symptom alleviation, personal development, or finding solutions to particular challenges.
Yes, individual therapy, also known as Individual therapy, at Thriveworks can help you to improve your mental health and overall quality of life.
Individual therapy at Thriveworks is conducted both in person and via Online therapy. We encourage you to choose the option that works best for you.
The duration of your individual therapy sessions will vary. The decision on the number and frequency of sessions is typically collaboratively determined by the client and therapist.
At Thriveworks, we accept most major insurance plans, allowing many clients to pay as little as $0–$50 per session with their co-pay.
