Play therapy is a therapeutic technique used for children and young teens. It involves the use of toys, art, and games to help young individuals process mental health challenges they encounter throughout their childhood like trauma, behavioral problems, divorce, or bullying.
Thriveworks play therapists in Alpharetta work with young individuals to help them express themselves, release stress and other emotions, learn about their emotions, and heal from difficult experiences by using toys, games, and art to work through these issues in more digestible and accessible formats.
Thriveworks therapists in Alpharetta conduct play therapy both in person and virtually through online therapy. We encourage you to choose the option that works best for you and your child.
Play therapy, on average, can take around 20 sessions to effectively address a young individual’s mental health concerns. However, therapy is a very individualized process, meaning that more or fewer sessions might be required depending on the client’s condition and symptoms.
When your child is struggling it can be very difficult to know what the best form of counseling would be. Some parents worry that traditional talking counseling may make it harder for their children. We at Thriveworks Alpharetta understand, and would like to introduce you to the concept of play therapy.
Play therapy is a fun and highly effective model of treatment for children ages 3-12. It provides a safe, non-threatening, therapeutic experience for children to express themselves in a manner that feels comfortable and natural to them. Young children may not have the verbal skills to thoroughly express what is troubling them. Older children may be reluctant, or not feel able, to speak about these things. Play therapy gives them a voice and an outlet to communicate, process, and resolve the stressors in their lives. If you think play therapy could benefit your child, reach out to Thriveworks Alpharetta today.
