About
As a therapist, I understand the importance of genuinely listening to the needs of others, and I have the knowledge to support your personal growth.
My name is Sarah Pearce, and I have been a Licensed Clinical Social Worker since 2018, receiving my Masters in Social Work from the University of North Carolina Wilmington. In 2008, prior to therapy, I worked in education as a teacher, social worker, and mental health support provider. In early 2023, I began my journey at Thriveworks. I am welcoming, warm, and able to assist people of all ages through difficult life transitions, relationships, and mental health experiences.
I enjoy working with adults, young adults, families, and children. I am able to empathetically connect across age groups. I think it is important to meet people where they are through an understanding, validating, and supportive lens while providing resources and support for their growth.
I am a nonjudgmental, understanding, empathetic person with the tools and resources to help you. If you are ready to connect, grow, and feel supported, schedule an appointment today.

As a clinical social worker, it's important to me to meet my clients where they're at and offer a warm, empathetic approach to therapy.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with 8 years of experience helping individuals navigate life’s challenges with compassion and authenticity. I’ve supported teens, college students, and adults through stress, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, and major life transitions. I believe therapy doesn’t have to feel formal or intimidating, and sometimes humor and real conversation can make the healing process feel more human and relatable.
I earned my Master’s in Social Work from the University of North Carolina. My approach is collaborative and practical, integrating evidence-based practices like cognitive behavioral therapy to fit each client’s unique needs and personality.
I view therapy as a partnership where we work together to create meaningful change at your pace and in your style. Taking the first step can feel nerve-wracking, but I aim to create a comfortable, judgment-free space where growth and progress naturally unfold.

David Hughes is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with 29 years of experience in the mental health field. He believes that the most important aspect of therapy is a connection with the client. Because of this, he strives to create a therapeutic atmosphere based on trust, care, respect, and humor. He believes being genuine and real with clients is vital in the helping process.
David completed his Master of Social Work degree (MSW) at Virginia Commonwealth University in 1999. He has been licensed in Virginia and is currently licensed to practice in North Carolina and Missouri. He brings a client-centered approach to therapy and seeks to have a conversation with his clients about the issues that bring them to therapy. He utilizes multiple treatment approaches including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and solution-focused therapy.
Life is hard. We all struggle with difficulties, doing so through the lens of our own thoughts, beliefs, and experiences. We all need help sometimes. David believes he will be capable of walking with you while you address life's difficulties and help you develop strategies and skills to help cope with those difficulties. If you are ready to engage in that process, schedule an appointment with him today!

Teen counseling helps young individuals better understand and manage the challenges that affect their mental health. Common challenges amongst teens include anxiety, depression, ADHD, and problematic relationships with food.
Teen counseling works by using multiple techniques, tailored to fit the teen’s unique needs — based on their age group, their challenges, and the severity of their challenges. It might involve cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, art therapy, and others for varying ages. In any case, Thriveworks teen therapists in Wilmington have the expertise and experience to help young individuals at their level.
Signs that teens might need Teen counseling can be very subjective, as they are experiencing many changes and can have intense reactions to them. As parents, you know your child best and are best equipped to judge whether certain reactions are standard behaviors for your teen or whether they might be hinting at a larger problem. Even so, there are a few common signs and events that often point to a need for therapy, such as experiencing divorce or loss, grief, consistent low moods, teens distancing themselves and becoming isolated, losing interest in hobbies, excessive anger or irritability, substance use issues, and suicidal ideation, among others.
Teen counseling providers at Thriveworks in Wilmington, NC offer both in person and online therapy by video. We encourage you to choose the option that works best for you.
The length of teen counseling depends on your teen’s needs as well as the goals that you and their therapist might have for them. Generally, teen counseling sessions will last for several months.
Adolescence is a time of many changes. The stress of fitting in and being held as a member of a group of friends, first loves and lusts, and arguing with friends and enemies are all common occurrences.
