About
I believe that healing starts with being truly seen, so I work to build a space where you can explore who you are without pressure or judgment.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with 2 years of experience supporting individuals, couples, and families through life’s challenges. I help clients navigate stress, relationships, and personal growth by creating a warm, collaborative space where they feel seen and supported. My approach is tailored to each person’s unique needs, focusing on building strengths, developing coping skills, and fostering resilience and lasting change.
I earned my Master’s in Counselor Education from Radford University. I use a person-centered and strengths-based approach that combines empathy, support, and practical strategies to help clients overcome barriers and build self-awareness.
It takes courage to begin therapy, and I believe everyone deserves a space to feel heard, understood, and empowered. In our work together, you can expect guidance, authenticity, and a safe space to grow at your own pace.

As a child, I always wondered why certain things always seemed to happen to me. As an adult, I learned how to use these experiences to be a better person. As a therapist, I learned that these experiences taught me to be empathetic and help others who are dealing with similar circumstances.
My name is Karlene Chisholm. I am a licensed marriage and family therapist in the state of Connecticut. I have had the honor and privilege of working with individuals, families, and couples—both young and old—for the past 27 years. I have experience working with children and teens (ages 6–19), young adults, couples, and older adults. I have worked with a range of concerns, including ADHD, ODD, grief and loss, PTSD, anxiety, depression, and marital issues.
When working with clients, the first step toward successful treatment is creating a safe environment where they can fully engage in the therapeutic process. Once that engagement is established, we can work together to develop treatment goals, encourage behavioral change, and implement appropriate therapeutic approaches.
As a therapist, I believe that my clients already possess the tools they need within themselves to heal and grow. My job is to help facilitate that change and support them throughout the process.

Marriage counseling works by helping couples identify and better navigate their unique challenges. Following an initial assessment of the couple in terms of strengths and needs, the therapist would then discuss their therapeutic goals and any possible approaches or ways of working together as therapist and couple.Couples attend sessions together, whether they meet in person or by video. In addition to regular marriage counseling sessions, each partner may also be asked to attend a few individual sessions to supplement their progress. This will allow their counselor to get to know each individual better, assess each of their personal needs, and develop the very best treatment plan moving forward.
Marriage counseling at Thriveworks is conducted both in person and online by video. We encourage you to choose the option that works best for you and your partner.
